Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Because of the strong international influence of The Church of Latter-day Saints and BYU-Idaho affiliation with The Church, LDS members come from around the world to attend BYU-Idaho. Many cultures are introduced to students through the influence of international students. Brigham Young University-Idaho strongly encourages students to organize groups that center on different cultures of the world. A very large percentage of the male students has served a two-year mission, where each goes anywhere in the world to spend time serving people. These young men bring back different languages and cultures with them to the school, sharing what they learned with others.

The Church teaches love for all of God’s children and respect for every individual’s culture and beliefs; the University holds true to this teaching. Even though the school has a high percentage of students who belong to the Church, many non-members are admitted to the school, as well, as long as they commit to live the standards established by the school’s Honor Code. Students from all cultural and religious backgrounds find a pleasant welcome from the student body and students interested in their beliefs and where they came from.

Diversity at BYU-I

There is not a lot of diversity on BYU -- Idaho campus. There are a lot of people who are white. Almost everyone is LDS. This is to be expected since the school is a private church school. A majority of the political beliefs would be Conservative.

Same Religion, Different Cultures

Most students here are of the same religion and therefore seem very ready and willing to accept everyone who comes along. When it comes to the actual people and where they come from though, we are very diverse, having people from all across America, the Islands, Africa, etc... I find it wonderful.

Acceptable

I don't feel like there is a problem with lack of diversity. There are plenty of ethnic diversity at BYU-I.
