BYU-Idaho: a Very Unique Campus

Here at BYU-Idaho we have high standards and we are required to live the honor code. Here BYU-Idaho is known as BYU I do :) It's been said that if you really want to get married then all you have to do is come here and you'll get married pretty quickly. I don't know if i believe all of that but you do see many couples on campus. We also don't have competitive sports. We do have sports here but we don't compete with other schools. We want to focus more on the academic opportunities here. The employment availability is there but since there are so many students the job spots go quickly if your not looking. However if you are in a financial situation then the school will try it's best to help you.

My Unique School

BYU-I is a very unique school for a few specific reasons. First off it is a private religious school so our religion is promoted and talked about during classes. Its a very interesting experience combining two completely different aspects of my life into one. This school is located in a extremely small town in Idaho, which for most people is a new experience. It can be quite a culture shock, but something that everyone should experience.

Facts

Traditions
  • Devotional: Every Tuesday, the University invites a speaker to talk to the student body on a spiritual topic. Students gather for devotional and show they're prepared for the speaker by raising their scriptures.
  • Midnight 5K Run: Every semester, students run a 5K at midnight to support a given cause.
  • Pond Skimming: Students get together in the winter and slide across the ice and snow on the Upper Fields.
Urban Legends
  • "Ring by spring or your money back." Some people get married their first semester, but it's not like that for a lot of people. And you won't get your money back.
  • BYU-I really stands for BYU-"I do."
  • It's more of a fun fact than it is a legend: the most frequently stolen book from the library is The Miracle of Forgiveness by President Spencer W. Kimball. Who'da thunk!
  • Legend says that the Tuscany Place apartment complex was once home to a prostitution ring. But I'm not entirely sure that it's just a legend!
Did You Know? BYU-Idaho has a three-track system. This allows for three semesters in one year. Students are assigned a track that is comprised of two of the three semesters (fall, winter, and spring). Having this system allows the University to maximize the use of its resources year-round and allows the school facilities to be used constantly. It also plays a major part in the University's ability to admit so many students at a lower cost. In part, the ability for BYU-Idaho's increase in admission will be because of this three-track system.
