Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students at BYU-Idaho could get away with never having a car or buying a bus pass. First, because there aren’t any busing systems, and second, because nearly everything is within walking distance. However, sometimes, walking just won’t cut it; having a roommate with a car or having a car yourself can be beneficial for trips to Idaho Falls or grocery shopping. Also, it’s a little difficult to get up the motivation to walk to the store in negative-degree weather. However, most housing complexes are close enough to school, and parking is incredibly limited to the point that it really doesn’t make sense to not walk or bike to class. The campus layout was designed for a walking campus, and many students do walk.

As for long-distance transportation, there is a shuttle service to the Salt Lake City Airport. And students often find rides from other students through the BYU-I bulletin board to get or offer rides back home after the semester ends to reduce driving costs. On another note, any traveling students have to do for a specific class (like a field trip) is done through school transportation. The school has a couple of vans available exclusively for class and school-related activity travel.

Because this is such a small city there is no public transportation. They do have the option that you can rent a car to drive around town for dates and shopping and such, but it's kind of expensive and not worth it when you can walk.

BYU-Idaho does not provide or sponsor any transportation for its students unrelated to approved academic classes. There are, however, several travel options offered by companies in the community. Shown above is a partial list of companies offering travel options. This list is provided for your convenience and to help you weigh the options and make decisions based on your own special needs and preferences. These listings are informational only. BYU-Idaho does not endorse any of these companies nor has BYU-Idaho investigated any of these companies to determine their safety record, their compliance with state or federal regulations, or their business standing. Before using any of these carriers, BYU-Idaho recommends that you determine that they are appropriate for your needs. Because service may be limited, the best plan for travel is to make plans early. Planning helps students and their families have the reassuring knowledge that things are taken care of in advance. It also helps the companies offer services to fill the students' needs.

Traveling

Many students use the bulletin board offered on the school website. There are always students leaving and going to school from all over the US. It is very easy to find a ride fast and it is much cheaper than the other options. There is a bus which travels to and from the school. I have found it to be more expensive and not as fun as car pooling
