Academic standards are rigorous, more difficult than many universities that my peers attend. My major, art education, requires acceptance into the program. The workload is huge, and we are expected to produce a high level of academic achievement. We do research and make presentations to our peers. We go into the public schools as part of my major, and teach art. I also teach art to children as part of my job at the Museum of Art.

Academic standards are high. It is a difficult school to get into, because of the many more who want to come here. My professors have been very knowledgable and professional. The registration process is easy, but many classes are hard to get into. There are great study options. I participated in a study abroad program based on literature which was centered in London, but included continental Europe for a month. Many languages are taught here, and foreign study is offered to several countries. Political and business internships are popular as well, in Washington DC.

We are encouraged to walk, because there is not much parking available.
Permits are cheap, however, and the parking police are strict.

BYU has great physical facilities. You can be involved in intramural athletics or work out on your own with a great gym. You can pretty much do any sport on a team level or just with small groups. Thy campus is beautiful, with a lot of green spaces. The buildings range from over a century old to those being built currently, so there is a variety of architecture. The grounds are very well maintained, with flowers, bushes, rock formations, waterfalls, hills, duck ponds, etc. The campus is very large so there are plenty of places to hang out or study.

We definitely have four seasons here. It gets pretty cold in the winter and since I walk everywhere, it can be pretty brisk. The seasons are pretty.

Guys & Girls:
There is a very friendly atmosphere here at BYU. Because it is a church school, everyone is looked out for socially, emotionally and spiritually. People dress trendy, but we have a dress code that requires modesty and no sloppiness. There is a lot of emphasis in establishing good dating relationships.

There is a large religious community at BYU, which provides social activities. There is plenty to do in the surrounding communities while not studying. The mountains and canyons provide a beautiful setting with plenty of recreation.

you have old run down places that still charge a whole lot and then find ways to get more money out of you or you are stuck in the richer developments that are way too expensive unless you are getting into a lot of debt, working a lot or have outside help, parking in many areas is a nightmare and many contracts are year round only leaving a lot of students in a bind trying to sell contracts during the spring and summer terms, and then charge extra to sell them

ok so being from Arizona i am not too good with the cold but it could be a lot worse! (and a ski resort is close if you want to get in the sun during winter)
College Sophomore 2013-11-12T07:17:07Z
late night and you are out of luck, but the food is pretty good and there is a mix of chain restaurants and school run restaurants
College Sophomore 2013-11-12T07:14:56Z
lots of the school has been updated and renovated and many of the facilities are state of the art. approved off campus housing is either very new, farther away and very expensive or closer, cheaper and really really old and run down...the campus itself is very nice though

BYU has its quirks but it was a very good choice for me to get my start in school and had a field i really am interested in, its a difficult university for sure but many of the different colleges are ranked very high nationally. there are some things i don't like (still cant fully participate in "no shave November"...) but after finding my major, overall its been a good experience so far.

I received a scholarship but still it was hard to get and complicated to find resources that didn't involve debt
College Sophomore 2013-11-12T07:04:18Z
pretty much non existent, which if that is your kind of thing then this is the place for you, there are parties obviously but more low key dance/DJ kind rather than bars, raves etc.

School seems sometimes like it will last forever but the food I can find is great and I will miss the restaurants if I leave the area

College Sophomore 2013-11-12T06:58:51Z
no fraternities or sororities, lots of problems potentially avoided i think
College Sophomore 2013-11-12T06:57:28Z
it's a very strict honor code but it does help provide a pretty safe environment and helps avoid a lot of the consequences of drugs, alcohol abuse, etc.
College Sophomore 2013-11-12T06:54:06Z
economically diverse, pretty ethnically diverse

The scholarship and financial aid is excellent and the value is awesome!!! Low tuition rates in comparison with most schools.

I never wanted to live in the dorms, but there are lots of new & super nice housing options. Even the older stuff is not so bad, and it is cheaper.
Recent Alumnus 2013-11-12T03:44:41Z
I would have changed my major from exercise science to something else, but I would have kept my double German major. I got frustrated with big huge classes, so I would have avoided those like the plague.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
