College Prowler Take

BYU football is a Utah County tradition. BYU takes a lot of pride in athletics, and student support is consistently consistent. The fall semester is punctuated with comments around campus supporting/bemoaning the football team. Historically, BYU has done well in our division, although we recently left the WAC. We do have sports aside from football, but they aren’t really noticed unless they are doing well. Intramural sports are big around campus—many students get involved, especially in the spring and summer.

There are so many students on campus that an elitist attitude from athletes is easily avoided. The All-Sports Pass is a great way to get involved in many different sports, and it is not too hard on a student budget. Sports are really big at BYU and add a fun dimension to student life.

Sports are very big. Football games are huge, basketball is pretty big, and volleyball and soccer get pretty good turnouts. We have All-Sport Passes that get you all of the home game tickets to football and unlimited access to most other sports events (the football tickets alone cost more than the card, so it’s an awesome deal). Intramurals are very popular. Friends in apartment complexes and wards are always putting together teams for intramurals. It’s fun to support each other and go to each other’s games, too. I play intramural soccer, and I’ve had fun being the ‘team mom’ for many of my guy friends’ teams.

Way Fun to Watch!

A+

I've enjoyed watching BYU's sports teams play ever since I was little. I love the vibe I get when I go to the games. The Athletic Department has enjoyed quite a bit of success in the past year, and I appreciate the integirty of the players.

Varsity sports are huge, especially football, basketball, and volleyball. There are lots of games. Intramural sports are great—they’re really popular as well, so you have to sign up early if you want to get on a team.

I am an intramural referee, so I have seen IMs from the inside, and I really enjoy them. We have a few occasional problems, but, for the most part, sportsmanship is good, and it’s a great program. There are many sports offered, too, the most popular being flag football, basketball, and soccer.

School Spirit

Cougars are proud to be cougars! Although most BYU students are from out of state, may come from a long line of BYU graduates and have grown up watching BYU sports. School spirit is high on campus, especially when facing BYU’s rival, the University of Utah. BYU has Blue and White Week every year, the week of the BYU versus U of U football game. Lots of activities involving school spirit are held around campus every day leading up to the big game. One of the most popular is True Blue, where students can play football and squash around in foam that dyes their skin blue.

Getting Tickets

Tickets are fairly easy to get if you are a student. The only really difficult tickets to score are the University of Utah versus BYU football games. If you buy the All-Sports pass, you basically have access to any home event. These are usually around $80-$90 depending on the year, but make sure to get them in the summer before they sell out!

Most Popular Sports

Football is, by far, the most supported sport on campus. The basketball and volleyball teams have done well in past years and, when they are doing well, people go to the games.

Most Overlooked Teams

BYU’s rugby team is one of the best in the nation, but their games are surprisingly low attended. Admissions are free and excitement is high, so make sure to check them out!
