BYU requires all single students to live in "contracted housing." This means that students are required to live in apartments that were inspected by someone at BYU once upon a time, but have not been looked at again. All of the contracted housing must be within 2 miles of campus. This equals old apartments lacking updates and upgrades being rented for top dollar. There are nice apartments, but you're going to pay for them.
