College Prowler Take

BYU is constantly striving to provide the most up-to-date facilities and classrooms, which means that there is always a big hole somewhere in the middle of campus. The Wilkinson Student Center and the Harold B. Lee Library were both fully remodeled a few years back and are really nice. The Wilk has all kinds of convenient stops, from food courts to bowling to an outdoors shop to a post office; there is even a barbershop for a quick haircut between classes. The athletic facilities are in the process of being remodeled. BYU is building a huge new athletic facility for its student athletes. This may mean that the average student will get some good hand-me-down sports equipment (hey, we’ll take what we can get).

The majority of classrooms are wired with projectors and computers for the teachers, and more than a few professors resort to PowerPoint presentations during lectures. In the business building, some classrooms have Internet hookups for students, as well. The new buildings are great, but the constant construction on campus gets old. However, the benefits outweigh the detours, and when all is said and done, BYU opens its best facilities to students. Just watch out for that hole!

Overall, the facilities on campus are really nice and clean, which is great. The athletic facilities for the athletes are much nicer than those for the average student, but the average student facilities are adequate. Many have been renovated in the last 10 years, which is great, but also difficult when there is always construction on campus.

The facilities on campus are phenomenal. Everything is very modern and well maintained. Of course, the trade off for this is that one must be willing to tolerate the fact that some area of campus or other is always being demolished, renovated, or upgraded to make way for something new. Campus construction is inseparable from the BYU experience.

The Wilk has a huge arcade, cheap bowling, and lots of other stuff. It also makes a surprisingly good date spot. The athletic facilities rock! I take jogging and weightlifting classes, and the equipment we use is incredible. The fields and courts are fantastic, too!

We have two full-size gyms, an Olympic-size pool, great dance facilities, and plenty of basketball, volleyball, tennis, and racquetball courts. We also have baseball and soccer fields, and all of these things are open to students. Our student center is a great building with lots of activities.

Facts

What To Do on Campus

There are tons of things to do on BYU campus. There are always activities being sponsored by BYU’s student association, or one of the many other clubs on campus. Also, the Soapbox is a campus favorite; students voice off about everything from dating to politics. The gyms are open throughout the day, and intramural aerobics classes are offered at night. There are three movie theaters on campus, including the free International Cinema in the SWKT. Campus offers a wide variety of places to grab a quick bite, from the casual Cougareat to the more upscale Skyroom Restaurant. You can swing by the Wilk for a performance of BYU’s stand-up comedy group Divine Comedy, an Acoustic Explosion event featuring musically gifted students, or even a quick haircut. The Wilk also offers a campus craft store if you’re into scrapbooking, and there’s Outdoors Unlimited if you’re dying to get that brand new mountain bike in the window.

Favorite Things To Do

Get involved or check up on activities that various clubs are sponsoring on and around campus. The International Cinema is also a favorite place for students, offering international movies for free every week. Also, every Tuesday in the Marriott Center, BYU offers a devotional given by a University or church authority which offers good, character-building guidance on how to lead a better life.
