College Prowler Take

Provo has a plethora of great restaurants. Any type of chain restaurant can be found here, and there are also lots of good little local places. If you are coming from a place without great Mexican food, you are in luck, because there are plenty of authentic Mexican and South American restaurants.

Fridays and Saturdays bring out the crowds, so the most popular places can get crowded. Also, families in Utah County tend to be large, and lots of people don’t leave their kids home; don’t be surprised to be seated next to a toddler. The Utah clean air act prohibits smoking in any restaurant; it is a sure tip-off that you are from out-of-state if you ask for non-smoking. There are plenty of great little restaurants, so don’t be afraid to tread off the beaten path and explore new cuisines!

There are hundreds of restaurants off campus—it’s impossible to name them all! Basically, anything you want, you can find in Provo. My personal favorites are Macaroni Grill, P.F. Chang’s for Chinese, and Rosas for some pretty good Mexican food.

American Pie Pizza will forever be...

American Pie Pizza will forever be a hallowed establishment for the poor, starving students of Provo. The pizza is great and cheap, which is all you could ever want in college dining. Fazoli’s is also an excellent choice. The food is comparable to the more expensive, upscale Italian restaurants, but the price makes it even better. Ottavio’s is fantastic, and who doesn’t love the Macaroni Grill?

I’m the youngest of five siblings who have all gone to school in Utah, so I know where the best places are. There is the Olive Garden and the Café Rio, which is the epitome of all Qdoba/Chipotle/Zteca-type places—it’s so good! Then there’s Subway, Hogi Yogi, American Pie Pizza, the Brick Oven, and tons of other places.

Good food is not hard to find in Provo. My favorite places are Café Rio—the best Mexican food in town, and Brick Oven restaurant, which has great pizza and a salad bar.
