I know, without a doubt, that going to BYU was the best thing I could have ever done. Something you should realize is that BYU is predominantly a Mormon school. If you’re not Mormon, then you agree to live by certain standards that might seem foreign to you. Yet, all of the standards are there for a reason. Academically, BYU is tough. There are classes that you are required to take that will challenge you. Almost every instructor will include some aspect of Mormon doctrine somewhere in their teaching, and that can’t be something that bothers you.

I’ve had an awesome experience, from intensive language programs in the summer to intramural sports. The academic quality of my education and weekend fun has exceeded my expectations. There are a lot of neat programs available at BYU as well, from internships in DC to study abroad in all corners of the globe, and plenty of work and extracurricular activities. If you are looking for work, plan on making beans. There is a lot of competition for good jobs. I wouldn’t have gone anywhere else for my undergraduate education for anything.

For all its quirks, BYU is a great place to get an education. Because of the Honor Code, there are fewer distractions to the learning process, and the people you encounter are of a higher caliber because of their commitment to live it. After three years at BYU, I honestly can’t see myself anywhere else.

I struggled with several other university options when I was making my decision, but BYU is a happy place to be and a great place to learn. Overall, it is just a perfect environment for a college student, and there is nowhere else I would want to be. Many people will tell you differently, but you have to decide what you want out of school. If you want drugs, alcohol, frats, sororities, and parties all day and all night, you don’t want BYU. If you want lots of fun mixed in with a moderate amount of studying, BYU will be right for you.
