College Prowler Take
While no campus is perfectly safe, BYU is pretty close. Without the problems brought on by alcohol and drugs,
crime stats stay remarkably low. Granted, a laptop computer left unattended in a hallway may not be there when you get back, but with a little common sense, you can easily go through your BYU career without any major problems (security-wise, at least).
Few campuses in America can boast the safety that BYU does. The Safewalk program is well designed and set up to make sure that students get home from campus safely late at night. BYU also regularly runs awareness programs on everything from water usage to driving safety. The dorms on campus automatically lock at 11 p.m., after which only residents can enter. Fellow students are friendly and look out for one another. It’s the BYU way.

Just be certain to walk around campus with a friend late at night. However, that’s just common sense. The people here are pretty much trustworthy, though not everyone is perfect—even Mormons. |

I always feel safe on campus, even late at night. I don’t know any statistics about campus safety, but I never found myself in a situation where I was afraid for my safety. |

I like to strap on my running...
I like to strap on my running shoes at 11 at night and go for a jog through campus. I don’t think twice about throwing on my headphones or running in the dark, because I know campus is a safe place, even at night. Of course it behooves students to take reasonable precautions to secure their property and personal safety, but crime on BYU’s campus is virtually nonexistent. |

They do have occasional problems...
They do have occasional problems around here in some of the darker, more wooded areas near campus. These problems are not common, though, and BYU is probably one of the safest universities in the country. |

We have a 24-hour police force that patrols on bikes and in cars. You really do see them all the time, so it’s not just something that they tell you to make you feel good about being here. The wards set up Safewalks with nice guys that will come of their own free will to walk you home from campus late at night. |
