College Prowler Take
Utah Transit Authority buses run all over Provo and have a couple of stops along BYU’s campus; they’re also an effective way to get to Salt Lake. Most big apartment complexes have a bus stop right in front of them, and the buses run fairly regularly. While this is not a perfect solution to the lack of parking at BYU, it does help.
As for getting around in the city, it is possible to survive without a car, though not enjoyable. Provo is fairly spread out, and not everything is accessible by bus. There is no metro or train system to augment the bus system. Salt Lake is a bit better with the TRAX system, but Utah still has much to learn about efficient public transportation. To check out options, see the Utah Transit Authority Web site at www.utabus.com.

It’s okay. Public transportation in Utah is sub-par, anyway. I have my own vehicle, so I rarely use the public transportation. |

Very convenient transportation system. There is a new bus system that is free for students, and they can get anywhere they’d like to go around town—even up to Salt Lake or to the mountains for skiing. |

It’s not great. A car is definitely a must—or a sibling or roommate who lets you drive. I didn’t have a car for a year and got around pretty well on my bike, but four wheels are preferable if you’re picking up a date. |

little over 50 miles from BYU, and it will take you about an hour to get there by car. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get there, as freeway construction is common, especially around the interchanges needed to get to the airport.
