Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Provo has beautiful weather. Due to the distinct four seasons that Utah experiences, everyone is bound to be pleased at least one day. Utah is a desert; as such, it’s very dry. This makes the summer heat a little less suffocating and the winter cold less biting. Don’t let the averages fool you—the summers can get up in the 90s, and the winters down into the teens. If you are a skier, you will love Utah’s amazing powder and great terrain. If you like summer sports, the lakes and mountains offer a great escape from the heat.

If you are not used to the cold, it may come as a bit of a shock, but don’t worry, most students say that it is not as bad as they expected. Be sure to bring all types of different clothing—the key really is layers. A coat is necessary in the winter, and be sure to look at the dress code before buying any new summer clothes to make sure that they will be allowed on campus.

Don't You Love Sunny Weather?

It is mostly sunny and dry here, who doesn't love that! The winters are pretty mild and Provo keeps the roads pretty clear. Doesn't rain much so if you don't like dry heat, I don't recommend it.

Utah's Unpredictable Weather

Utah is sometimes known for having weird and unpredictable weather, so if you live off campus and walk or ride your bike to campus make sure to always carry an umbrella in your bag and make sure to have boots and a good coat just in case it snows. The weather doesn't really affect the campus experience that much because there isn't very many things outside that would be cancelled or ruined by the weather.

I Love This

It snows, it's sunny, it's hot, it's cold, it's so interesting! Yeah, heavy snowfall and summer melts might get in the way a little bit with transportation, but other than that, I love the weather and the variety. When it's cold, it's not awful, and when it's hot, it's not unbearable. The desert climate is amazing.
