College Prowler Take

Provo has beautiful weather. Due to the distinct four seasons that Utah experiences, everyone is bound to be pleased at least one day. Utah is a desert; as such, it’s very dry. This makes the summer heat a little less suffocating and the winter cold less biting. Don’t let the averages fool you—the summers can get up in the 90s, and the winters down into the teens. If you are a skier, you will love Utah’s amazing powder and great terrain. If you like summer sports, the lakes and mountains offer a great escape from the heat.

If you are not used to the cold, it may come as a bit of a shock, but don’t worry, most students say that it is not as bad as they expected. Be sure to bring all types of different clothing—the key really is layers. A coat is necessary in the winter, and be sure to look at the dress code before buying any new summer clothes to make sure that they will be allowed on campus.

Bring both summer and winter clothing. By October it starts to get cold and most people will be wearing sweaters. We usually get a good few inches of snow every winter so be prepared for that. If you are coming for both fall and winter semesters, you will see both warm and cold weather.

It’s not extreme, but it does get cold. In winter, wear clothes suitable for snowy weather, and in the spring, it warms up quite a bit. It is a moderate climate on the whole, and does not rain a lot. There is a dress code, so don’t bother with shorts and tank tops, because you can’t wear them (well, you can wear the shorts if they touch your knees).

It’s Utah. Winters are generally very cold, wet, and nasty. Bring warm clothes. The summers are actually pretty mild, but it is the desert, so hundred-degree temperatures are not uncommon. Layers are the key to surviving the Utah experience.

The weather here is fairly hot in the summer and gets pretty cold in the winter. We might have a few inches of snow on the ground—enough to keep the skiers happy, since we’re within an hour of several huge ski resorts.

Four months of the most beautiful summer weather, and then it’s freezing cold and there are snow storms the rest of the year. It’s usually around the 80s during the day in the summer, and then cooler at night. The winters are horrendous!
