Provo has beautiful weather. Due to the distinct four seasons that Utah experiences, everyone is bound to be pleased at least one day. Utah is a desert; as such, it’s very dry. This makes the summer heat a little less suffocating and the winter cold less biting. Don’t let the averages fool you—the summers can get up in the 90s, and the winters down into the teens. If you are a skier, you will love Utah’s amazing powder and great terrain. If you like summer sports, the lakes and mountains offer a great escape from the heat.

If you are not used to the cold, it may come as a bit of a shock, but don’t worry, most students say that it is not as bad as they expected. Be sure to bring all types of different clothing—the key really is layers. A coat is necessary in the winter, and be sure to look at the dress code before buying any new summer clothes to make sure that they will be allowed on campus.

Snow...

Fall and spring are super nice around campus! Winters can get kind of sketchy, just depending on how much snow there is. Even when there is snow, BYU does a great job of clearing sidewalks, etc. to make things easier for students, but cold weather can be kind of a bummer

BYU Climate

Springs and summers are great - very warm (but not humid), lots of outdoor activities. Overall very pleasant. Autumn is very pretty - lots of leaves changing color and the mountains are gorgeous. Winters are very cold - usually a fair amount of snow. Winters are pretty grey, and the transition into spring seems to take forever.

Having it snow all winter does not make it fun to go to class during end of fall semester, and winter semester.
