Students Like Sports, but It's Not Their Sole Focus – Students are mostly supportive of sports teams when they are friends with members of the team. That said, the most students show up at a football or soccer game when Brown is playing Harvard. Brown has an exceptional men's soccer team and women's crew team; both of which have won NCAA championships in recent years. Athletic facilities are pretty well cared for and accessible. The school is currently building a new swimming facility.

Brown is not strict...at least to the best of my knowledge.

Guys & Girls:
Great People – For the most part, the students at Brown are interesting, fun, attractive, and intellectually curious.

Exciting the First Year; Some Places Continue to Be Delicious Over the Years – Overall, the food on campus is pretty good. After the first year of trying all the options, the two main dining halls, "The Ratty" and "The V-Dub" get a little old. The salad bar in the Ratty is always great though, and the self-serve waffle irons at the V-Dub are fun. Otherwise, the Blue room has great coffee, muffins, sandwiches, sushi, etc. The Gate has great pizza and paninis. It's no 5-star dining, but most of the time you can find something good to eat.

On a varsity sport myself but we received very little support. On the other hand, our soccer team did great and everyone came out to cheer!

Super Diverse – Although some people might lambast the school for having a substantial number of white students, the school celebrates diversity. The school is accepting and has so many different people of color and from diverse backgrounds that you get to the point where you do not even notice it.

A for Awesome – I absolutely love Brown's ample evening availabilities. There's so much to do on campus that you'll never want to leave College Hill!

Most people at Brown University walk everywhere. Few people have cars. The transportation system, Ripta, is available for all of Providence and is pretty standard. There is a separate bus service that is able to transport students downtown and back. However, it is difficult getting to and from the airport. In most situations when students need a reliable transportation source to get somewhere, they call the local cab service.

Not Too Intense – The campus strictness at Brown University is very lenient. There is a lot of underage drinking, which takes place in frats, sororities, dormitories, and the like. There is also quite a lot of drug usage. Marijuana is very popular and smoked pretty much everywhere. The campus officers are extremely helpful and are not all out to turn people in or ruin people's fun. Their main purpose is to ensure that Brown students remain safe.

Health & Safety:
Brown University has excellent standards in regard to safety and security on campus. There is very little campus crime, and I never feel as if my personal safety were in jeopardy. Downtown Providence at night, however, can be slightly frightening as there can be sketchy groups of people wandering around. There are blue campus safety lights placed periodically around campus that allow for one to contact SafeRide, Brown's 24/7 service that transports students to various on-campus destinations should they ever feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

Happiest Students? Oh Now I Understand – Brown is pretty much awesome. The class options are fantastic, ranging from Into the Machine- a survey of science fiction literature- to Biotechnology in the Modern World. Even though it is tempting tp spend all of your time socializing with all of the interesting people here, you have to study unless you want to sink. Definitely choose Brown if you want an academically stimulating education that you don't have to sacrifice a vibrant social life for.

Don't Expect Much – There are some clubs off of College Hill that are 18+, but they aren't very high quality. The parties on campus also aren't anything special. There are more options if you are over 21, but they are nothing to be excited about.
College Junior 2011-11-20T16:14:39Z
Minority Perspective – A lot of the students here Jewish and Caucasian. That being said, I am a minority and have always felt welcome by pretty much everyone. I have yet to become heavily involved in African American oriented clubs and organizations, but they din't seem to have a very visible presence on campus she compared to the Jewish Hillel organization for instance.

Large variety of majors and one does not have to declare a major to begin with.

Guys & Girls:
The female students at Brown are intelligent but not the most attractive. It is hard to have a conversation that doesn't mostly involve them talking about school or how stressed they are.

The Sharpe Refractory offers a wide variety of food choices. Some days are better than others, but with the large selection one can always find something good to eat. The V-dub offers less selection but the food is usually better quality and better tasting.

All Over the Place – The weather will go from gorgeous and sunny to snowing within a week. Providence definitely keeps us on our toes. But luckily things aren't terribly far away, and when the weather is nice the campus is extremely lively.
College Junior 2011-11-07T04:49:05Z
Go Flex – The food in the dining halls is decent but very repetitive. A flex plan is definitely the way to go, and the eateries where you can spend points have significantly better food than the all-you-care-to-eat options.
College Junior 2011-11-06T22:15:54Z
Drinking Very Popular – Alcohol is the most popular drug by far. There are more on campus who use it than don't, and the attitude toward underage drinking is relaxed.
Marijuana has its place on campus as well although it does not have near the influence of alcohol. It's more a private thing.

Guys & Girls:
Guys are hot although there is a clear divide between the athletes and the non athletes. All the girls on campus try to look presentable and do so with their own style. Both genders are very fit and into good health.
College Junior 2011-11-06T22:07:12Z
Great and Poor – Some facilities on campus are great.
Computers are new and all over campus. The student union was completely redone in the last few years and is now a very popular hangout with a cafe, market, late night area, and everything.
The satellite gym in Keeney Quad needs a lot of work, though. The machines are old and more than half are broken. When you live in Rhode Island, you need indoor fitness centers because the weather holds you hostage indoors for much of winter.
The Sciences Library is amazing. It has the newest everything, a cafe, quiet areas, and late hours.

Love the Atmosphere! Thayer St. is quirky, but there's always somewhere to go/something to eat. It is a relatively short walk to the main campus if you live on Thayer, and everything is a convenient walk. There's a CVS right on the corner of where several freshman dorms are located. The campus always feels relaxed. Nobody is overbearing or pressures you to do anything you don't want to do.

I Have All of Providence at My Fingers! the Brown ID also doubles as a Providence bus pass... so that's cool- no need to buy bus tickets! there's also SafeRide which is an on campus taxivan for getting from one end of campus to the other. all Brown students with a driver's license can also rent ZipCars for driving around if needed. Overall, if you need to get around campus or the city, Brown has you covered.

Everything on campus is beautiful from the outside! Some of the buildings are newly renovated and some are in the process of being renovated... there are so places to study, a myriad of libraries and eateries, art spaces, etc. there are quite a few places to work out too.

Flexible and Focused on You! brown has fantastic professors, dynamic classes, open curriculum, loving advisors and the choice to take classes S/NC (satisfactory/no credit). it's pretty rockin'. there are soo many interesting classes to take and they all vary so much! you can take a 500 person intro to Econ with 20 people sections or you can take a 6 person course in Haitian Creole! it's fantastic!
Sorry, there are no reviews.
