I didn't apply for financial aid

It's pretty good. Everyone here is friendly. In freshman year, people tend to make friends either in clubs and/or their dorms. JOIN A CLUB, its seriously really important. MOST IMPORTANTLY, join a club YOU LIKE. Don't do it because it'll look good on your resume.

If you live in Keeney, expect to be squatting to pee if you're a girl. That's all i can say. Co-ed bathrooms aren't always a good thing..
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:31:32Z
Providence is pretty boring, unsafe, and gloomy. Now, other students will fight me on this (there are some Providence fanatics) but I personally didn't go to Brown for the fantastic city life.

I mean, it's college dining. You'll get sick of the pizza, sick of the grease, and still refuse to make yourself a salad at the Ratty. Eating healthy is something you need to proactively do...or you'll end up at the Gate every 2 am eating greasy Hawaiian pizza
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:29:05Z
Don't come here if you want a classic sorority/ fraternity college experience. Most students don't join in on Greek life, but the frats DO host most weekend parties. Depends what crowd you fall into.

Brown students will most likely never pressure you to drink. Do you! If you like to drink, go ham. If you don't, then don't drink.
A lot of people smoke marijuana here- it's definitely a big scene.
Overall everyone has eachother's backs.
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:26:55Z
Honestly, if you aren't an idiot about your drug and alcohol use you'll be fine. Students frequently smoke openly in freshman quads, and our floor RCs generally know we smoke/ drink.
The BEST thing about Brown is the anonymous EMS service. Your teachers, parents, future employers will never, ever find out you got EMS'd that one Saturday night after throwing back too many shots of Jungle Juice. Very safe.

Coming from California, the weather is pretty bad. Bundle up!
Overall, you'll probably to busy studying or socializing to notice is anyways-- bring an umbrella and snow boots though.

Brown is amazing. One of the nicest campuses around, full of vibrant and caring people.
Brown can bee a little too "politically correct" for some people, but others find this consciousness a source of security.
I would choose Brown 100x again, seeing as I applied early.
Characteristic Brown: co-ed bathrooms in the freshman dorms. At first some were uncomfortable, but eventually it turned our floor into a huge family.

I have not held an internship because I am currently a freshman.
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:22:12Z
Brown University students frequently get internships, and good ones too! Our professors are very focused on undergraduate teaching. Generally unpaid internships, and generally only available to sophomores +

I eventually received the amount of aid I needed, but I had to fight for it. Applying early for financial aid is inconvenient but possible if you keep constant contact with the financial aid office.

Off campus housing itself is great...if you can get approval to live off-campus. It's much cheaper than going through Brown, but the process for Juniors to get off-campus approval is overly complicated, slow and inconvenient. However, Brown is undergoing a change in administration so this problem may be cleared up soon.
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:18:14Z
College freshman don't have cars on campus, and only a small amount of upperclassmen do. I've heard finding parking is hard, but that's about it.
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:17:24Z
Health & Safety:
There have been muggings in the past, but it's a relatively safe campus. Make sure to stay on campus greens when walking past 12 and you'll be okay...the neighboring streets are what make Brown sketchy.
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:16:19Z
Brown is the most accepting campus around-- don't worry about being looked over or looked down upon. You'll 100% find your niche here- or at least a great group of people to hangout with!
Absolutely accepting on sexuality issues.
There is an emphasis to be liberal here; leave your Romney bumper sticker at home.
College Freshman 2013-11-08T23:14:53Z
Printing is fairly easy and straightforward; Brown gives you $30 in "pawprints" at the beginning of the semester to pay for printing. That'll take you a long way.
Network reliability is absolutely terrible, but with a free provided ethernet cable it's quite speedy.
I would advise getting a personal computer because it's so convenient, but it's not a necessity.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:50:49Z
Wifi is not the best. But with improvements to the campus, administration is working on it.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:49:22Z
Health & Safety:
Campus police are present and there are many resources to promote safety. However, there are still occurrences of violence near campus, but not often at all.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:47:58Z
No core requirements! We can take whatever classes we like as long as we fill our concentration requirements.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:47:57Z
Lots of people are interested in political science and courses are popular and well taught. The workload is mostly reading but the opportunities are great.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:46:30Z
You can do what you want here, if you are good about it. Many people use drugs and consume alcohol (even underage) in the dorms and RAs are mostly okay with it as long as it isn't too obvious to anyone who would pass by.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:44:36Z
Most students live off campus their senior year. From what I know, many students are able to find affordable and nice housing.
College Freshman 2013-11-04T07:43:14Z
I love this school. For the most part my experience has been because of the people I met here. I didn't expect a lot of this. I expected a lot of "nerds" and "geeks" and while there are some, there are also a lot of people who party. This is definitely a place to reinvent yourself too. There is no judgment and I have nothing but love for the friends I have made here. Nowhere else will you meet so many amazing and beautiful people.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
