Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Greek life at Brown is about as minimal as it can be. This is due to the Greek system itself and the University’s attempts to seamlessly integrate frats and sororities into daily campus life. All Greek houses are on campus and abide by the same rules and regulations as any other organization on campus. The parties, for the most part, are open and welcoming to all students. If students never want to see the Greek system, they can easily ignore it. On the flip side, if students want a real Greek experience, they can find it in one of the dozen houses that exist.

The Greek system at Brown is one of the many positive interest groups. Banners hang around the Main Green and Wriston Quad to inform students of coming parties and events. A handful of nights during the year, you see the crazy, Animal House-type antics that Greek systems present at any school. However, if you want a school where you are defined by the three Greek letters printed on your T-shirt, Brown is simply not the place.

Greek Life at Brown

I think about 11% of Brown is involved in fraternities or sororities. Fine by me.

Sigma What?

Greek life is there for parties and some other events, but it doesn’t dominate at Brown. It’s not a big deal if you are in a frat or sorority, and it is not a big deal if you never set foot in one. It’s nice because you can go to frat parties, which can be fun, but it’s not a status thing.

Not a Strong Presence

There are parties every month or so but greek life is not a big deal at Brown. No one really cares if you are in a frat or sorority; it's just another housing option.
