College Prowler Take

In Providence, it seems to rain two out of three days, or it snows a ton. Some days in Providence are absolutely stunning, and if you visit in May, you’ll probably see hundreds of students frolicking on the green. Everyone looks deliriously happy because this is one of the dozen perfect days of the year. Some winters, there are particularly heavy snow falls, which cause the school to close down for a day or two. When it’s not snowing, it can be bitterly cold and depressing as the sun sets before 5 p.m. for a few months in the winter.

But most students adjust to the weather. Rain and snow-resistant clothes are a staple of every student’s wardrobe. Heating in the dorms is fine, but the old houses that students inhabit off campus don’t always have central heating, and gas and electricity bills run high in the cold months. While the weather is nothing to prevent anyone from coming to Brown, it is something that you must be prepared to deal with.

Winter can be rough with a lot of wintry mixes. Invest in rubber boots or you'll go through two or three pairs of shoes every winter kicking your way through slush in the streets. That being said, when it's not precipitating, the weather is fairly mild and easy to deal with.

The winter in Providence is brutal. It is really cold and nothing like California weather at all.

Rainy. Snowy. Cold as hell. Occasionally, though, you'll get the best day ever. The beaches are pretty close and generally free if you take advantage of RIPTA, the public transportation.

The weather is the same as New York's, except it's bitter cold and rain boots are must here because the drainage system is horrible in Providence.

I went to a Brown orientation in California before I came to campus freshman year. They told me the biggest problem people have is adjusting from the lack of light during the winter. In the winter, the sun goes down a lot earlier here.
