how often is the required participation?
It depends on the class and instructor. Generally, you have to participate in class discussions over 3 or 4 days each week and respond to at least 3 classmates posts. Other than that, just meet the deadlines for turning in assignments each week. About an hour on Friday or Saturday is necessary since some assignments cannot be turned in before friday.
