College Prowler Take
Bucknell’s academic community truly is a community. Students and professors constantly interact with one another in and outside of the classroom. If you’re looking for a more intimate college atmosphere, Bucknell is a great school for you. Classes are small, so students have a voice and can express themselves during lectures and discussions. The majority of the professors really do love their jobs and are committed to helping students. All professors hold office hours a couple of days per week, and students can drop by with any questions they may have. Often times, students will contact professors via e-mail to set up meetings outside of office hours. When a professor is passionate about the subject and about teaching, she can make even a biology class interesting for a science- and math-hating English major. The workload at Bucknell is definitely manageable, although engineers seem to have a heavier course load than other majors. Many students are involved in other activities besides just academics. The key to balancing it all is just time management. Students learn quickly that the distractions of online conversations, roommates, and loud dorms can prevent them from getting all of their studying done. Fortunately, Bucknell has a massive library with desks, group tables, private study-group rooms, couches, and beanbag chairs. Something that sets Bucknell apart from many of the nation’s other top universities is the fact that many Bucknellians find a balance between their studies and their social life. Most other schools are either described as workaholic schools or party schools; at Bucknell, there is a great balance that allows students to excel academically, graduate with a degree from a top university, and have a great time doing so.

Professors are incredible with few exceptions. They challenge you to do your best and genuinely want to be here. I've had lunch at a professor's house and made cookies with a professor's children. They want to get to know you both academically and personally.

The professors are usually great, but there are some bad ones. The workload is a lot. If you know what classes are easy, it's nice to balance those with harder ones but expect a lot of work. All of my professors have basically been great at meeting with me whenever I needed help.

The teachers are excellent here. We have a great core group of professors who really have a vested interest in the students. They are required to hold office hours during the week and are more than happy to schedule other times to meet, as well. The workload at Bucknell is pretty heavy. The rigors of the education here are said to really set Bucknell students apart from others in the real world, and it doesn't surprise me. Spending around four hours a day outside of class, per course, is a common practice. Bucknell is widely known for its superb engineering school and is recently being recognized for its business school.

The professors here are generally amazing. They are all so enthusiastic to work with students and teach their passions. They all do research, but since there are almost no grad students, undergrads get to be involved in the research projects. Bucknell is known for its engineering school, and the engineering program is great because the engineers all work together, the professors encourage and assign group work, and there isn't a competitive atmosphere.

The professors at Bucknell have been incredible. I was able to get to know them very easily, and they constantly bring enthusiasm and and passion to the classroom. My workload has been fairly standard, but if I ever feel like I'm having trouble, I can always talk to my professors.

Did You Know?Almost 25 percent of the engineering students are women. This figure is among the highest in the nation (the national average is 20 percent). During finals, the cafeteria sponsors “study breaks” and prepares different foods each night, from nachos to soft pretzels. During finals the library is open 24 hours a day, and cookies or coffee are put out in the lobby. Throughout the week, all of the dorms institute “quiet hours.” Forty-two percent of students spend a semester or more studying off campus.
