Comparable Schools' Diversity Grades:
College Prowler Take
When it comes to economic status, it is true that most students at Bucknell are considered to be wealthy, which is not a surprise given the high cost of tuition. In terms of different races, many students report that they do not see much diversity as they walk through campus. The minorities on campus tend to hang out amongst themselves, so there’s very little mingling between races. However, it’s important to note that there is geographic diversity. Students come from all over the United States and the world, which really helps bring more diversity to Bucknell with their ideals, customs, and upbringings. Bucknell is certainly not a school for only people from small-town Pennsylvania—the University attracts students from big cities, suburbs, and small towns. Also, students who are interested in mingling more amongst international students can choose to live on a language hall, where they’ll be surrounded by students of different nationalities. It’s a fact that the University is not very diverse, but it is important to note that even though Bucknell has a rather homogenous student body, the students here are very accepting of students of different ethnicities. The admissions office at Bucknell is working really hard to increase the diversity at the University. With Bucknell’s location and its stereotypical “yuppie” students, it must be hard to appeal to the general masses, but Bucknell is trying with aggressive advertising campaigns and scholarship programs. Therefore, it seems promising that futures classes will continue to get more and more diverse.

While Bucknell has a fairly even spread sexually, it is one of the most homogeneous campuses that I visited during my college tours. Bucknell's reputation as a rich white school is, unfortunately, not too misplaced. While there is some ethnic and economic diversity, I would say that the vast majority of students here fit the stereotype.

It's called the Bucknell bubble...
It's called the Bucknell bubble for a reason. Everyone here is a well-off, white, upper-middle class, "popular kid" from the suburbs. You'd be hard pressed to find any real diversity here, aside from the token foreign exchange students Bucknell imports to boost statistics.

Bucknell is not very diverse by any stretch of the imagination. Most students are white and come from well-off families. Ideologically and politically, there is somewhat of a mix, but based on what I've seen at friends' schools, we don't compare. Despite the lack of diversity, Bucknell is very accepting when it comes to the issues of race and sexuality.

Ethnically, I don't think Bucknell is very diverse since the majority of the population is Caucasian, but they are not all of the same ethnic background, even if most are white on the outside. Politically, we are quite diverse and split since I think both the conservative and liberal groups on campus are equally weighted. We have a nearly a 1-1 ratio of guys to girls, so that is good. Economically, I think we are mildly diverse, but the majority of campus would most likely fall into the very wealthy category.

FactsEconomic Status
There definitely are many really rich kids and even more plain rich kids. There are people representing all of the social classes, but it does often seem that wealthy students seem to be the majority.
Gay Pride
Overall, the campus is very accepting of gay students and their lifestyle, even if they may not agree with it. There is a FLAG and BT (Friends of Lesbian and Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered) organization on campus. In fact, every sorority in Hunt (the sorority dorm) made their floors a safe zone for homosexual students. There does not seem to be a sizable gay community at Bucknell, but those who are seem to be accepted into the community.
Minority Clubs
Brothers and Sisters Empowered, Caribbean Club, Chinese Cultural Association, Middle Eastern Organization, Japan Society, German Club, Cumbre, Essential, Greeks for the Advancement of Multicultural Education, Hillel, Vietnamese Student Association, President’s Council, Burmese Cultural Organization, Korean Culture Association, NAACP, Students for Asian Awareness, Muslim Students Association, Bucknell International, Turkish Student Organization
Most Common Religions
Christian religions are probably more popular then others. Rooke Chapel is a beautiful chapel right on campus that holds all of Bucknell’s religious services. There are also services for all different religions around town.
Political Activity
Politically, Bucknellians are basically evenly split between Democrat and Republican. Bucknell has political clubs on campus such as the Conservatives Club and College Democrats, both of which are very active. Speakers with different political ideologies are often brought to campus, which is a great way to keep students well informed on what is going on in the world.
