It’s no secret—Bucknell has an unnatural amount of “really, really, ridiculously good-looking” people. (There was actually a Bucknell T-shirt made with that line on the back!) Most students are very conscious about health and fashion and care about their physical appearance, but they also seem to have a certain amount of natural hotness that can’t come from the gym or make-up or the right clothes. Even if every girl or guy at Bucknell is not gorgeous, many still are able to project the idea that they are. The downside to having a good-looking student body is that some students, specifically girls, are overly confident in the fact that they are attractive, which makes them appear stuck-up. Also, the fact that Bucknellians are attractive and care about their appearance can have a negative impact on students, such as girls who frequently feel the need to go tanning and/or engage in unhealthy dieting. As with many college campuses around the country, the issue of eating disorders is prevalent.
There was a rumor that Playboy once ranked Bucknell third on a list of college campuses with the hottest girls, but Bucknell women have much more going for them than that. Girls and guys at Bucknell worked hard to get where they are and continue to work hard to stay where they are. Even though a guy may sometimes act like a frat guy from Animal House or a girl may display behavior reminiscent of Girls Gone Wild, everybody is an intellectual with ambitions and passions outside of the party scene. Come Monday morning, the guy you saw funneling three beers before he smashed the empty cans flat against his forehead raises his hand in politics class to share his views. The typical Bucknellian truly does lead a balanced life between the academic and the social. And if they don’t, they eventually experience the consequences.
