College Prowler Take
Because Bucknell is located in a somewhat isolated area, there is hardly anything to worry about when it comes to safety and security. The campus is laid out in a manner that further isolates it, as the southern end of campus is lined with acres of cornfields, and the northern and eastern ends are surrounded by neighborhoods. Furthermore, most of the neighborhoods around campus consist of upperclass students. Because the town is small, there isn’t much crime, although Bucknellians do joke about the fact that the school is in close proximity to Lewisburg Penitentiary, a federal penitentiary!
Every week in the "Bucknellian," the student newspaper, there is a published Public Safety log of all the previous week’s offenses. The majority of these deal with underage drinking and public drunkenness. Occasionally, students will hear reports of an unwanted sexual encounter, but these are seemingly due to a miscommunication between the people involved and the fact that, most likely, they were under the influence of alcohol. As a general rule, there is not a problem with theft on campus, but every now and then when students leave their belongings out in the open, items such as books or laptops are taken. However, students usually seem to have more complaints about the consistent presence of Public Safety officers everywhere than they do about safety and security. Public Safety recently became armed, but students have not noticed the difference. Overall, the campus is extremely safe, and the Bucknell community is tight-knit.

Quiet Town = Virtually No Crime
A-
Lewisburg is really small and rural which I think contributes to the extremely low-crime rate on campus. Last year I never locked my door (except around Houseparty weekend) and I never had anything taken or messed with.

The only place a student needs to...
The only place a student needs to worry about things getting taken is at frat parties, but it isn't always intentional—things can simply get lost in the crowd. Public Safety's goal is not simply to bust drunk students, but more to make sure that people stay safe. Bucknell has a point system to deal with student drinking with which new students are familiarized during the "Transition to College" course.

I have never felt unsafe walking...
I have never felt unsafe walking around Bucknell at night or during the day. Public Safety patrols via bikes and cars, and the Lewisburg Police "look after" the downtown houses. I'm not gonna lie—LPD really just tries to bust kids for drinking because our off-campus housing is their territory. P-Safe is awesome, and they're just looking out for you.

It is extremely safe here on campus. I haven't heard of one crime yet. Public Safety patrols the campus to make sure everything is going smoothly and to make sure no one is extremely drunk, but they only ever confront students who are getting sick or cannot walk. Aside from that, Public Safety never really gets involved because they don't need to.

The security at Bucknell is very...
The security at Bucknell is very good. There are public safety officers all over the place. You really can't go from point A to point B without seeing at least one public safety car. Compared to other colleges that I have visited, Bucknell's crime rate is low. There are emergency buttons in specific places around campus—outside and inside. In case of an emergency, all a student needs to do is press the button, and public safety will be there in minutes.
