College Prowler Take
An overwhelming amount of students say that they cannot imagine being in college anywhere else and are extremely happy with their decision to attend Bucknell. Many students have gripes about the isolated location, lack of diversity, and emphasis on Greek life, but these issues all seem to dull in comparison to the overwhelming sense of community that many Bucknellians admit to feeling. Most think of the “Bucknell Bubble” as a bad aspect of their college experience, but it also appears to be the very thing that has made Bucknell the cohesive place that students say they love. Bucknell has gotten the reputation of being a private institution filled with rich kids that think too highly of themselves, but while some kids do fit that description here, it is not the norm—most of the people you will meet here are truly genuine. Bucknell is a place where students can flourish academically and socially in a small, supportive environment. Professors are deeply committed to the students, and the students seem to be genuinely interested in learning. The campus is physically breathtaking, and you will often find yourself in awe while walking in the academic quad through autumn leaves or watching a crisp, cold winter sunset from the top of Freas Hall. Bucknell may not be located in the hustle and bustle of a city with new and eccentric sites around every corner, but what Bucknell has is a very real sense of family—something that no city school could ever achieve.

I really do love Bucknell. Being from Colorado, people on the East Coast can be a bit abrasive and uncaring sometimes, but I find that Bucknell is a generally caring place, and almost anyone who can get in can thrive here.

Bucknell is awesome. It was my first choice, and it was the right choice. The academic reputation, alumni network, and overall social experience are well worth the $50k we pay to attend.

Bucknell is a great place, and my overall experience has been positive. I would definitely come here again if I could do it all over again. It is a superior school academically and reputation wise, and I think you really grow as a person here. I have met some great people through my courses, living situations, and my sorority and wouldn't trade the stellar friends I've made for anything in the world. Finding your niche and group of people to associate with has really made Bucknell a fantastic place to spend the past four years.

It's been okay. If I could do it all over, I'd probably go somewhere else. But, I have grown a lot during my time at Bucknell while learning how to deal with the monotonous culture and boring social scene. I did get a good education out of it, and because Bucknell is a small school, I had many opportunities I might not have otherwise had, like being editor-in-chief of the paper.

I usually describe my feelings...
I usually describe my feelings about Bucknell as love/hate. The thing I hate is the cliquey, exclusive institution of the Greek system and the unnecessary social divisions it creates at such a small school. I also hate the so-called ‘Bucknell bubble,’ wherein pretty much no one at the school knows or cares what’s going on in the outside world, as well as the relative lack of diversity and cultural flavor that I was used to, growing up on the outskirts of a fairly large city. The things I love are the small classes, interested and interesting professors, beautiful campus, great parties, good concerts, and the genuine community feeling of the school—on any given walk across campus. If you decide to come, your experience will be what you make of it. Greek or not, it’s possible to have a great experience there. |
