College Prowler Take

Because Bucknell’s campus is on the small side, it is very easy to get wherever you need to be when you are on your feet. If you want to go out to dinner or do some shopping, downtown Lewisburg is a short walk from campus. For students who don’t have cars, there is a weekend shuttle that runs to the neighboring town of Selinsgrove, where there is a mall, a Wal-Mart, and a grocery store. For the most part, though, everything students need is on campus. The bookstore sells toiletries, snacks, and similar necessary items. Students who live in the apartment-style housing or the “Mods” either have their own cars or know somebody who does.

For students who want to occasionally get to the city, Bucknell offers bus trips to NYC, Philly, and DC. The trips cost $25, and the student can stay there all day. These trips are a really fun and inexpensive way to do some shopping and sightseeing. Other than the shuttles Bucknell offers, there really are not many ways to get off campus without a car. The limo and taxi service is pretty expensive, and students really only use that to get to the airport or train station if there isn't a Bucknell shuttle available. Some students take the bus out of town, but it’s often a long ride because it stops frequently. So, while it is possible to get off campus without a car, it’s much easier to do so if you have a car or friends with cars.

The town of Lewisburg is so tiny...

The town of Lewisburg is so tiny that public transportation is not an issue, but the nearest mall and the Wal-Mart are farther away. Bucknell offers shuttles to both places, but they are not always offered. The school also offers cheap day trips to New York City and Washington, DC, but these are rare. In general, people don't leave campus unless they have a car of their own.

There is very little public transportation because the surrounding town is so small. The downtown area of Lewisburg is only a 10- or 15-minute walk, depending on where you live. Also, the University provides shuttles to places like Wal-Mart and Weis on Saturdays if you need to stock up on food and whatnot.

It's easy to walk downtown, so there is really no need for public transportation. Additionally, the University provides shuttles to Wal-Mart on the weekends.
