The drug scene is not noticeable. Nobody ever really pressures you do anything. Some may ask, but once you say no they respect that and leave you alone. It is not a problem. Some people do it, some do not. It is all up to the person. But on the weekends there are undercover police walking around looking for underage drinkers! The good thing is we have a number you can call if you are at a party and a there is an emergency, like a friend passes out or something to that nature where the police will come to help and you will not be asked any questions or be in trouble if you were drinking underage. It is all about safety

I commute to school, so I am still living at home, and the only option for freshman living off campus is to live at home with a parent or legal guardian, so I have not had any other experience but with this. I will say, they help commuters stay informed and I feel like any other student there.
College Freshman 2013-12-06T05:47:23Z
Our campus is small so there is no need for things like this, and even when it is cold outside, some buildings connect so you would not have to walk outside.

I had the best experience! I received my first year completely paid for! They were very prompt and gave me all the information I needed in order to get my financial aid and everything I needed to do in order to keep it! NO problems here!

Health & Safety:
On campus we rarely have had any issues. The neighborhood surrounding is pretty nice and quiet so there is not many disturbances, but if anything does occur we are immediately alerted and are provided with great safety tips to keep safe. There are also emergency phones with an emergency button on the booth if someone is following you or you feel in danger all over campus. Also new this year is Dawg Ride! It is service on Thursday-Sunday night that is riding around all night in case you are leaving the library late or your friend's dorm and you do not feel safe or need a ride back you can call and get a free ride.

There are many interesting classes to take, as well as many opportunities to express yourself! There is a summer program where you can choose your own topic to study in a lab and if selected you can receive money to fund your experiment!
College Freshman 2013-12-06T05:40:09Z
The academics are great! We have some of the best professors. At least in my opinions I have professors who really care for me and are always there when I need them. There are also many accommodations for students with disabilities. We have both a math and English lab if you are struggling with math or even help on writing papers. A popular area is Irwin library which is beautiful, and has a lot of space and different floors! So if you want peace and complete silence the basement is where you want to go and the other floors are more lenient and you can talk. Also perfect for meeting with groups on the upper levels!

So far I am enjoying myself. I love the size of my school, because I feel I have such close relationships with my professors and they know who I am. The people are friendly, and I would choose my school all over because there are so many different possibilities and organizations that I could have gotten involved in from the beginning but it is never too late. The only problem I have is with diversity, but it is not a big deal, we have a wonderful diversity center that always has nice dinners and parties that everyone is welcomed to!

You don't see people out drinking or doing any type of drugs because campus police are so strict. Lots of people drink, lots dont. You can go out and party and not drink without being pressured. Some people do drugs but again no pressure to join them.

Butler like most private schools is outrageously expensive. I got financial aid but still had to apply for loans
College Student 2013-11-11T20:15:32Z
Butler basketball is obviously huge! Lots of people are involved in either club or intramural sport teams. You can't get better athletic facilities than Hinkle.
College Student 2013-11-11T20:13:41Z
The community seems to love butler and are always asking about the sport teams. Being right outside Indianapolis is a fun atmosphere and gives lot of options for shopping, museums, parks etc.

Lots of rich white kids but that's what you get when your not at a state school
College Student 2013-11-11T20:10:15Z
Broad Ripple bars are great! It just a pain that you can't walk there. The school provides shuttles but they stop pretty early so you have to find other transportation back to campus.
College Student 2013-11-11T20:08:28Z
There is Broad Ripple nearby that has a wide variety. There is a shuttle that runs on weekends which is the only way to get there if you don't have a car.

1 landlord has a monopoly over most houses around campus, and treats the students with little respect. Houses are broken into often because we live by the ghetto, try to stay as close to campus as possible and preferably closer to Hinkle. The off campus party scene is the knoll, but it's not as safe.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:32:16Z
I like my major, clusters are good and bad at times, it's nice to have all your tests done at once, but then again it is very stressful. Pharmacy dominates Butler so you always feel part of a group.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:32:15Z
I'm in pharmacy and we constantly have companies interviewing students for internships. Seems pretty easy to get one if you ask me, but I had one coming in to college already.

Guys & Girls:
Typical frat guys, nothing special. Most guys are short, so if you're a girl over 5'8'' it's hard to find a guy taller than you.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:28:37Z
There is no way to get groceries unless you have a car or a friend with a car.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:27:58Z
Basketball is the only super popular sport here on campus, although the football team thinks they are the best. If you wear Butler gear out to eat on game days the workers always ask how the game was or comment on Butler's performance.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:26:47Z
Health & Safety:
Instead of roaming and making sure the students are safe, the police usually just want to give out drinking and parking tickets. When I was a freshman the police were out to help you, but now they are out to get your money and get you in trouble.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:25:25Z
I haven't used campus dining since freshman year, but I heard it has improved.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:24:48Z
I have never been pressured into doing drugs, and never really knew people used drugs until I went to certain fraternities and got to know more people.
College Sophomore 2013-11-11T15:23:43Z
Butler wireless can be very slow at time, I can't skype on butler internet. You need a personal computer for sure, but I have always used the Butler printers.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
