College Prowler Take

If you are looking for a campus full of blonde-haired, blue-eyed guys and girls, you aren’t going to find them here! There’s a great deal of diversity among the guys and girls on campus. This turns out to be great because not everyone has the same ideal person in their minds, as far as looks and personality traits go. No matter what the description of your “perfect” person is, you will probably be able to find someone who comes close to your match! If you want to check out the good-looking crowd, you can look for them at the fraternity parties, but otherwise, you will probably have a few in your classes to at least look at if you get bored with your professor’s lecture. It seems that a majority of freshmen and sophomores don’t have as many serious relationships compared to the juniors and seniors. It’s been said that a lot of freshmen that come to CPP come single on purpose, so they can “start over” in the social department. There are no rules in any of the University housing facilities regarding the opposite sex staying in other rooms; in fact, all of the residential halls are coed halls (not coed rooms, however). Guys can spend the night in girls’ rooms and vice-versa—there’s no penalty. The College of Letters, Arts, & Social Sciences (CLASS) and the College of Education and Integrative Studies (CEIS) have the most girls in them, while the College of Engineering and the College of Business seem to have the most guys. If you ever have to take some extra elective courses, keep this in mind!

Some Attractive Men and Women.

B

There are plenty of men and women on campus, the trouble is finding an attractive one. Although there is quite a few attractive men and women, it can be a challenge finding them.

Typical Cal Poly Student

A

The typical Cal Poly student lives at home and commutes to school or has family within a few hours. In typical southern California style, girls are usually dressed nicely and guys the same. The school lacks a lot of spirit or community due to the large amount of commuters.

Most are geekier in nature

A

My time here has proven that the majority of the students at this school are geekier in nature. They dress in a fashion typical of someone who has heard of the indie movement but doesn't want to fully pursue it. There are outliers, but the majority of guys wear T-shirts and jeans, and girls wear whatever they find comfortable.

Very Diverse

B

The types of girls and guys at school is very across the board. You have all types of ethnicities; typically Asian and African American make up the majority. A lot of people are from the area and commute, making the social aspect a little less than average.

Facts

Birth Control Available?

Yes - At Student Health Services. You must make an appointment beforehand, though, and you must have a pap smear and take a birth-control class offered by Student Health Services before it is prescribed, unless you have a prior prescription.

Social Scene

Since Cal Poly is a commuter school, a majority of the students do not tend to socialize too much. Many tend to go to class, and then go home or go to work right after. However, those who get involved on campus tend to have a rewarding college experience. The most socializing seems to be going on in on-campus housing, the BSC, and the Marketplace.

Hookups or Relationships?

Cal Poly has a good mix of those that are single and ready to mingle and those that are hooked. It seems like a good chunk of the younger students are single, while those closer to graduation are in relationships.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

There are always the usual parties at the fraternity houses for both guys and gals to meet up—that seems to be a pretty good hotspot.

Dress Code

You will see a majority of students kickin' it in jeans and flip-flops—both in the summer and in the winter. Everyone is pretty laid-back. Some girls will get all dolled-up to go to school, and most always look their best. You will probably see some students dressed up as they are heading out to work or to a class presentation.
