College Prowler Take

Off-campus housing is pretty easy to find, if you want to fork out the money for it. A majority of students live off campus since it’s a commuter school—many with their parents. A majority of the apartments are in Diamond Bar, Chino, San Dimas, and West Covina. There are some in Pomona, but they aren’t in the best of areas, so be careful when you check them out. The only major apartment complex in Pomona (technically Phillips Ranch) that students live in is the Crest, and the prices are a ripoff. The University Village Apartments are extremely close to school and offer the best deal. If you figure it all out, the rent is roughly around $400 a month. If you try to find an apartment anywhere else, you will pay almost double. If you do decide to move off-campus, though, try and move somewhere where you won’t get stuck in traffic. Temple Avenue is horrible with traffic, and the 10 Freeway is horrid heading west in the mornings and east in the evenings—just keep this in mind! If you plan on living on your own, try out the dorms for your first year, then the suites, and then move off campus. But whatever you do, definitely live on campus for at least a year to get the true college experience. Other alternatives that students sometimes choose are the fraternity houses, or simply getting a house with friends and splitting the rent, which can also sometimes wind up being cheaper.

So basically the off campus housing consists of oh, just the Village. It's close, it's convenient, and super easy to work around.

There Are a Few Places Around

B

There are two popular apartment complexes around Cal Poly that are close and filled with mostly students. Most students either still live at home or find a group of people to rent a house with. For Greeks, it sucks because we do not have chapter houses, but most greeks rent houses with their sisters or bros. Cal Poly has recently added more housing on campus which is a plus. The school's housing department does have a system to help students find housing and roommates, and there's an annual apartment fair for students to find off campus housing.

Village Apartments Off-Campus

A

They are conveniently located right off-campus, but the school shuttle transports students to and from the college campus, which allows students to not have to drive and buses can be tracked online so that you don't have to wait for a long time. Despite the cost and depending on which phase you select, you have your own room with three other roommates, kitchen, refrigerator, two bathrooms, dining room and living room, which provides from a more at home feel and privacy. Overall, the village apartments are a good choice.

Off Campus Housing

B+

Off campus housing is not very difficult to find. The prices are not extremely high, but high enough to put a dent in your pocket. The locations of off campus housing are close to campus, which is a plus.
