College Prowler Take
Since Pomona isn’t a huge metropolitan city like San Francisco, San Diego, or Los Angeles, the public transportation isn’t outstanding. There are the MTA and the Foothill Transit buses that come on campus, and you can catch a train over at the Pomona or Claremont depots, but other than that, there isn’t much. A majority of people on campus have a car, which is much-needed at CPP. It flat out sucks if you don’t have a car, because there is nothing close by, and you have to get on a freeway to go anywhere. If you want to go to the closest grocery store, it’s still a 10-minute drive, which is like an hour walk because you have to go around freeways and over hills. If your parents don’t want you to have a car your first year, show them this book! You need a car! If not, say goodbye to grocery shopping or having somewhat of a life. There are not enough resources on campus to get what you need. You can still get the necessary school supplies at the Bronco Bookstore and selected snacks at Pony Express or Vista Café, but that’s about it.
As far as the buses go, sometimes they are on time, and sometimes they are not. Your best bet is to find a friendly, trustworthy roommate who can take you places occasionally, or make good friends with someone who has a car on campus—quick!

Best Options Are Bike and Bus
B-
There are fairly inexpensive bus systems that go to and from Cal Poly. However, CPP is right next to a county line so you may have to use two or even three bus systems (each with their own pass) to get a reasonable distance. The train is a good option for long distance but costs more than car gas for short distances (0-15miles). All systems are really pretty safe, the drivers and even other passengers keep a close eye on things.

Transportation at Pomona
B
They have a shuttle which can get you around on campus and the Ontario airport is close and convenient. But for a public transportation system to town and different places it's really hard to get there without being dropped off or having a car.

It's a Commuter School With Shuttles
B
Since parking fills up really quickly, many resort to taking the campus shuttle(s) that stop on- and off-campus, though these stop running at around 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. Those who live fairly close to campus sometimes choose to bike to school. But almost everyone basically prefers to drive themselves (or carpool).

Airport
LAX is about 45 miles away and about a 45-minute drive without traffic. If you are going to this airport, try to go against the flow of traffic (in the morning, traffic is heavy going into LA, and it’s heavy going out in the evening).
The Ontario International Airport is the closest airport to Cal Poly, only 15 miles and only a 20-minute drive. The prices are a tad bit more expensive than LAX; however, you will spend the difference in gas sitting in LA traffic.
