Pasadena is nationally known for its assortment of restaurants and wide selection of cuisine. Though some of the restaurants in Pasadena may be too pricey for the average college student, the rest of the options aren’t lacking in variety or taste. Pasadena has a McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr. There is also Tommy’s, a California burger chain that some Caltechers are a tad obsessed with. Then there are places that are not quite fast food, but offer fast food-like prices such as President Thai, a Thai food restaurant. The food is inexpensive, good quality, and a nice break from campus food which can become extremely mundane. Pasadena also has diner-type places like Denny’s, Carrow’s, IHOP, and few more that are good for a meal any time of the day. Getting off campus for a meal is usually fun and relaxing. The more expensive restaurants, although less frequented by students, are nonetheless still accessible. Places like the Cheesecake Factory have great food and large portions, but they are farther away. There is also P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, which is close to campus and has marvelous dining options. There are also many Japanese sushi restaurants in the vicinity of Caltech. There are so many eating places in Pasadena that few Caltechers have dined at all of them. However, Caltech students normally base their decision of where to eat on taste, price, and distance from campus. Students Speak Out

Right around campus there are a wealth of fast food places. Carl’s Jr. and Jack in the Box are within walking distance. |

The Cheesecake Factory has really...
The Cheesecake Factory has really good food, but it takes a while to get in; they don’t take reservations, and they always have about an hour’s wait. The Tibet Nepal House has really good food at a good price, and it is never crowded. For a good steak, try Chiara’s, a Brazilian steakhouse. Grandview Palace has really good Americanized Chinese food. It’s better and cheaper than Panda Express and also has huge portions. Many students like to go to Carrow’s, which is a 24-hour diner that many people feel is better than Denny’s. |

The restaurants off campus are great. There are several fast food or fast food-type places, like Baja Fresh, Rubios, Panda Express, McDonald’s, a Japanese fast food place (San Sai), Togo’s, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Carl’s Jr., and more, all about a 10-minute walk from campus. |

There are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. Burger Continental provides lots of good food for a low price. Zankou Chicken is sort of fast food, but is actually very good. Bona Corso is a very good Italian restaurant. |
