College Prowler Take

Like Greek life, the drug scene at Cal Poly only seems to be present if you want it. Students who have no affiliation with illegal substances are not at all likely to be approached or even exposed to drugs at all. However, like anything unscrupulous, if you’re looking for it, you’ll probably find it. The key is to use good judgment about what people you hang out with. Mainly, don’t be stupid. Even if you do end up in a house filled with marijuana smoke, it isn’t likely to be forced on you. Poly students are fairly relaxed when it comes to peer pressure. If you don’t want it, you don’t have to do it.

As a whole, Poly students don’t seem to be interested in or curious about drugs. Their mind-altering substance of choice is definitely alcohol, which can be found everywhere. People like to get drunk and have a good time, not drift into the twilight zone on something weird. Even then, peer pressure is minimal.

I think it depends on the circles you hang out in. Almost everyone in the town smokes weed, and it isn't very hard to find. With all these engineers at the school, they need some sort of release. In my opinion, the second biggest drug is cocaine. There are also a lot of people in town that use cocaine. This is not as well known and is more on the down low. People do not advertise it widely, but sometimes at parties you'll get someone offering it to you, or you'll see a group of three or four people just wander off into another room. No, they are not going to the bathroom in the sense that a naive freshman thinks.
