College Prowler Take
The facilities open for use by all students (and therefore financed by everyone) are excellent. The recreation center is top-notch, with indoor basketball courts, racquetball, martial arts classes, a swimming pool, and volleyball nets. The University Union had a major remodel and is looking quite chic. Computers are usually donated or financed in part by large companies, so they are top-of-the line. When it comes to individual departments, however, conditions vary. High-profile and profit departments like engineering and computer science, receive large donations, therefore are able to maintain their buildings. So, other departments seem to be living in the dark ages. Cal Poly’s overall look is modern. Being on the west coast, there is no gothic architecture or enormous wood-paneled halls. If you’re looking for something stunning, you’ll find it in the natural environment. The campus is covered with trees, green grass, and flowers. Since the weather is perfect, why be inside? Most buildings are at least efficient and serve their purposes well. The performing arts center is probably as classical as you get, having been modeled on the European-style opera house.
