College Prowler Take
Public transportation in SLO is convenient if you live near a bus stop with a direct route to campus, which isn’t always the case. Shuttles run around the Poly area frequently. But be prepared to panic on those occasions when the bus breaks down, is late, or doesn’t show up, and you just happen to have the professor that knocks you down a grade every time you’re late. The bus system definitely has its place, though sometimes it’s more convenient to ride a bike or walk. If you’re living on campus, the bus system is a good way to explore the city on the weekends or to do off-campus grocery shopping. But it’s not convenient if you need to be somewhere exactly on time. If you’re living off-campus, it’s likely that there will be a grocery store, or at least a market, within walking distance. This will prove most convenient the majority of the time.

Public transportation is really great. Buses run all day. They will pick you up in front of the gym and take you downtown or out to Madonna and everything in between. All you have to do is slide your Poly card, and you get on free.

Public transportation is awesome. The public buses come right on campus and go straight into town and all around SLO. And it's free with your student ID card. What could be better?

Public transportation is free for all Cal Poly students with a simple swipe of your ID card. The bus stops frequently right in the main part of school, much closer than some other colleges I've visited. The rides to town are short and pleasant.

Taking buses is ideal, but honestly most freshmen bring their cars. You don't have to, as multiple roommates/friends will likely have one, but it's convenient to set your own schedule for movies downtown, the beach, or hitting up the grad.
