Cal Poly is the melting pot of the Cal States; pretty much every ethnicity you can think of is represented on this campus! Every class you attend will have a broad mix of people in it. Although Cal Poly doesn’t get a lot of students from out of state, it does get quite a few international students! CPP is actually one of the top 20 schools in the western region for international students.

Not only are the students from many different parts of the world, but the teachers are, too. Because of the many different majors offered, Cal Poly pulls its faculty from all over. There are over 30 cultural clubs located on campus for you to check out. They are constantly selling different types of ethnic foods as fundraisers, so you can smell it as you exit class. It’s a delicious way to steer clear of the repetitive campus choices. It’s very refreshing to see so many different people on campus and to hear their experiences and opinions in a class setting.

No matter where you go after you graduate, you will be forced to deal with a multitude of people from all different backgrounds. Cal Poly is a great example of what life will be like after graduation: full of a variety of people.

Diversity Well Mixed

There are a well mixed amount of students. The diversity is mostly white, asian and mexican. Since I am in the Apparel merchandise and management major, it is mostly women in the department.

Very Diverse

The campus is very diverse. It is not completely equal but every where you go there is always different kinds of races. This is very cool because sometimes you are able to understand there culture and different points of view.

Diversity for Sure.

Its a pretty diverse campus. Unlike many UC's where it's Asian dominated, it's a pretty balanced mix here. I've met so many people with different beliefs and ideas, it's been pretty refreshing.

Facts

Gay Pride

CPP is noted in the top 100 LGBT campuses in The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students, a major campus guide to highlight the 100 most LGBT-friendly campuses in the United States. Since Cal Poly is such a diverse campus, it's not surprising that the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members of the campus community are supported by organizations on campus such as the Pride Center, Queer Students and Allies for Equality (QSAFE), and La Familia de Cal Poly.

Political Activity

There is not much political activity on campus. You may occasionally run into demonstrators protesting, but nothing major.

Economic Status

Most students come from middle-class families. There is also a good chunk of students who come from low-income families that are attending school on scholarships.

Most Common Religions

Many organizations on campus represent the Christian religion, though other religions—including Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam—are represented, as well.

Minority Clubs on Campus

Because there are so many cultural clubs, the Multicultural Council (MCC) has been established to look over the 30 cultural clubs on campus. In addition, the cultural centers are a part of the Office of Student Life, which houses several student centers that represent minorities.
