Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Because Cal Poly is largely a commuter school, the majority of students live in off-campus housing, or even still at home with their parents. The most popular locations to rent apartments are in Walnut, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Phillips Ranch, and San Dimas. Students tend to avoid the apartments in Pomona because they aren’t always in the safest of areas.

The Crest, located in Phillips Ranch, is an apartment complex that is filled with Cal Poly students, although the pricing is a bit steep. More recently students have been renting small houses with friends and splitting the rent between the roommates. If a student is part of a fraternity, he has the option of moving into his fraternity’s house.

Honestly, the best choice for off-campus housing is the University Village Apartments. They are close to school, in a safe area, and are affordable. The downside is that because they are school property, there are rules when it comes to parties, noise control, alcohol, and decorations.

Dorms

The dorms are very old and small. The air conditioner is controlled by one power source. The heater is on when the weather is hot. The dorms are very over priced.

Pretty Nice

I lived in an apartment at The Crest. It was close to the school, but as a freshman, it was torture. Meeting people was nearly impossible and parking my car was awful. So, while there are LOADS of options for living off campus here at Cal Poly Pomona, I recommend not living off campus your first year. Other than that, the apartment I stayed at was reasonably prices and well placed.

Housing

The only close option is right across the street from the campus. However, it takes a thirty minute walk to get to class.
