Dorms Vs. Suites Vs. the Village Vs. Off Campus
I've been in all, so here's my verdict on each:
Dorms: GREAT as a freshman getting to know people, the food at L.O. is terrible, but you'll lose weight if you eat there (forget the freshman 15 with CPP's hills!). After freshman year, you'll be over wearing sandals in the shower and sharing EVERYTHING, so get out of the dorms after your first year, unless you become an R.A. (which is rad)
Suites: they seem pricey, but aren't too bad compared to living off campus (since the price includes your food money to use on campus!), the suites are a great option for people who want or have to stay on campus for whatever reason, and I would recommend them to pretty much anyone, since they are generally very safe, clean, and there's always a party to be found without worrying about the noise level (they have the best insulation in the world, i swear!)
The Village: Overpriced, and you have to pay to get TV in your bedroom (the price only includes utilities and cable in the living room). Plus, it floods pretty badly when it rains. Also, if your friends want to stay, there's literally no parking within a reasonable distance (like on campus), unless you live in the far corner of the Village. Also, your roomies might not be students. I generally disliked that place, and many people live there simply by convenience. Get a couple friends together and live at the Crest instead.
Off Campus: There's the Crest (the most popular off-campus housing, right up the street) and about a billion other apartment places around. They're fairly cheap (if you look in the right places, which isn't hard to do) and chino hills/claremont/upland/ontario/chino are actually pretty nice, with MUCH lower rent than right next to campus. If you have some friends who want to be roomies and a car, DO IT. or stay in the suites, both are great after freshman year. Also, if you go greek, don't expect housing. Seriously, don't, they have too many people in their houses already.
