Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Pomona doesn’t have the level of public transportation like San Francisco or San Diego. Your only choices that actually come to campus are the MTA and the Foothill Transit Buses. However, the bus systems in Pomona are not exactly known for being on time.

Students can also take the train, which they can catch from the Pomona or Claremont depots. However, you would need a ride just to get to the train! In addition, there are no movie theaters, grocery stores, or shopping centers within walking distance. The closest grocery store to Cal Poly is at least a 10-minute drive, which would make walking there impossible. Besides, would you want to walk back carrying all those bags?

Biking is another option, but again, the distance and bags would still pose a problem. Without a car, you will be stuck with whatever food and supplies happen to be sold on campus at the Pony Express or the Bronco Bookstore as your only choices, unless your roomie has a car. And it will make weekends repetitive after a while. Bottom line: if you attend Cal Poly Pomona, you will need a car.

Parking Is a Bust

I'm a commuter and that's always simple to get to school, it is sometime a struggle finding a parking spot depending on what time you have to get to school. If I'm paying $300 a year for parking, I want a guaranteed parking spot!

Walking Is Faster

Cal poly is mostly a commuter school so it is pretty expensive to live off campus. There are campus buses that take you to different parts of the school, but one can out walk the buses most of the time.

Get You to Places

The Cal Poly Pomona shuttle is very nice. The driver always greet you when you are entering the shuttle. The wait time isn't that long. Even if you aren't taking the shuttle, you'll see it around the campus every now and then. The public transportation is pretty nice. It takes you to other bus stations so you can travel far without transfering a lot.

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

LAX is about 45 miles away and about a 45-minute drive without traffic. If you are going to this airport, try to go against the flow of traffic (in the morning, traffic is heavy going into LA, and it’s heavy going out in the evening).
