When one isn’t feasting on a burrito at the DC or a burger at the OE, the off-campus dining options at CSUMB are satisfactory to anyone’s taste buds. Seaside and Marina offer a wide variety of eateries, from fast food and chain restaurants to local specialties and dives. The options widen in Monterey, as the touristy Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row are home to some of the best restaurants on the central coast. Regardless of your preference or palate, you are guaranteed to discover your new favorite restaurant within a 10-minute drive of CSUMB. As the home place of several different ethnicities, the Monterey Peninsula boasts a diverse assortment of cultural cuisines, especially authentic Mexican food. Papa Chevos, a campus favorite, is one of such restaurants, as it is best known for its “forearm sized” burritos. The different taqueria’s scattered throughout Seaside are also worth checking out, especially for those with adventurous tastes. Those seafood lovers will also find contentment in the Monterey Bay, where fresh fish and other marine delicacies are fished out of the ocean on a daily basis.

For the most part, most of the Monterey’s top restaurants are very convenient and easily accessible. The only real student complaint about dining convenience is the city’s limited number of late night options, as students are often limited to fast food choices past a certain time. Another complaints is a general lack of student food discounts, but most restaurant prices are decent and reasonable (except in the more touristy areas). Whether you are craving Italian or Comfort food, CSUMB’s off-campus dining options are always a nice escape from the everyday campus cuisine.
