Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

On the whole, students most satisfied with their experience are very involved in the heart of the school. Many students choose to become RAs, Ambassadors, work in the Matador Involvement Center, the Design Factory, join a sorority/fraternity, or get involved in intramurals or club sports. Coming to the school for the first time, you are bound to notice the construction that is taking place on campus. CSUN is definitely in a state of flux as it waits for the new University Student Union and the parking structure to be finished.

CSUN is a commuter school (as you have probably heard mentioned somewhere else in this book), meaning that most students live at home and commute to school. Because so many students are native to the area, they are not compelled to meet new people and participate in school activities. Years later, many of these commuter students say that the school lacks a social scene and they wish they had moved away from home to go to college. On the other hand, other CSUN students move from small, rural towns to go to a college in the city, and they absolutely love the campus. However, students are correct when saying that Northridge isn’t a typical college town. Most of the partying takes place in Los Angeles. Many students also acknowledge that the school has a laid-back atmosphere about academics, which allows students to work and live a life beyond their computer screen and learn from life as well as the classroom. Students cite the school’s ubiquitous diversity as a pinnacle example of how students can learn from their environment by hearing the voice and seeing the values of different cultures.

The One Positive!

The weather in the valley is actually really nice. During the summer months the weather really heats up, as temperatures reach well over 100 degrees. The nice southern California weather perception holds true in this case. It rarely rains and never comes close to snowing. Overall, the weather is definitely one of the perks of attending CSUN, as the girls on campus dress accordingly.

Limited!

If one is not greek, It is actually quite hard to break through on the social scene. The location of the school also has a lot to do with why so many people are stuck up and feel entitled. Furthermore, many people commute from nearby cities, so not a lot of them stick around during the evening.

Great Urban Entertainment

Being located in Los Angeles right smack in the middleof Southern California, CSUN has plenty of things to keep students entertained on off days from school. Many students on the weekend will drive to Hollywood for its bright and festive night life. Students will also hit up many of the local amusement parks such as Disneyland, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Universal Studios. However on those hot California days many of us like to head to the beaches, the most popular Venice Beach which is full of unique shops, food, and people. Many of the students have an attitude of adventure and want to take full advantage of what California has to offer.
