As a freshman you are not required to have a meal plan, but it’s a good idea if you live in the dorms as it helps ease all of the sudden responsibilities. Choose a small meal plan that has flex dollars because you can use them in more places. Choosing a meal plan with less meals per week may be a better choice for some because if you don’t use all your meals for the week, they will expire, and you may get tired of eating campus food.

In recent years, CSUN has made big changes in the food department, and fortunately, there are many changes still to come. As it is, students can only use their meal plan in designated areas. However, with the addition of the Sierra Center, students can use their plan to eat a variety of food. The majority of eateries are on the south side of campus, so if you are taking classes in the education building, art building, or business building, your only options are vending machines or the Mercantile store that doesn’t sell the healthiest of foods. Also, a disappointing factor in CSUN’s meal plan offerings is that you can’t use your meal plan anywhere off-campus, and there aren’t any 24-hour restaurants.

Something Everyone Will Enjoy

There is Panda Express, Burger King, El Pollo Loco and Juice It Up, by the bookstore, and there are more diverse foods in the food court. There is a Subway, and The Pub, which is a sports bar. The school offers different foods for everyone. There is guaranteed to be something that everyone will enjoy.

WHY NOT HEALTHIER

To me there does not seem to be enough of vendors or dinning halls where you can get a great, cheap snack before, in between, or after classes.

Will Walk for Food

We have a handful of centralized food locations that offer a variety of food choices (hot, cold, pre-packaged) but you will have to walk a ways to get there. There are also vending machines scattered throughout with drinks, snacks & coffee that are more easily accessible.
