Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

On an any given day at CSUN, you might see an Asian American club fair, a Capoeira demonstration, a political group handing out flyers, a MEChA or CAUSA protest, a same-sex marriage on the lawn, a memorial of the Armenian genocide, or a number of other activities that indicate the high level of diversity at CSUN. Although Caucasian people make up the largest percentage at the school, that number has been growing smaller each year. The diversity at CSUN reflects the diversity of the valley and Los Angeles, and the greater part of the student body are clear that they enjoy learning and spending time in such a dynamic, ever-changing place. Professors also impart this attitude by openly embracing issues of diversity in their curriculum.

Tolerance is so high at CSUN that hate crimes and intolerant graffiti are unheard of. In fact, Los Angeles is home to the Museum of Tolerance and the Skirball Cultural Center, two foundations dedicated to the preservation of openness and diversity. Many students are changed by their experiences at CSUN because they are able to befriend people or join groups that help them affirm their own cultural identity and celebrate the differences between all types of people. The cultural clubs are very active and make themselves known through fundraisers, demonstrations, rallies, memorials, or pamphlets. Although some ethnic groups tend to segregate themselves, you will find that most everyone will open up.

Huge Melting Pot

My campus is a huge melting pot. The saying is often used to describe the United States of America with it's diverse cultures and different ethnic backgrounds, and it can also be used to identify the campus of California State University, Northridge. I love and respect different cultures and people, which is why I love my school.

Diversity at CSUN Is Not Acceptable

There are many challenges that CSUN students are facing. Fees are increasing every semester. Many friends decided to not go college this year and save money. CSUN students come from different races, but the Latino and Black CSUN students are not enrolling in classes they need due to cost of attendance and living expenses. Im a Latino, and I need three more units to graduate from CSUN, but I dont have money nor help to achieve my goal.

Rainbow Campus

No, not rainbow as in queer, rainbow as in many different colors (ethnicities/races). CSUN is a very diverse campus. There is a little bit of everything here at CSUN. I don't know about everyone, but as a whole, the campus is very supportive and accepting of people who come from different backgrounds, cultures, and religions. We have clubs and organizations that can accommodate anyone. If we don't have what you're looking for, make your own club. it's that simple.
