Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Considering that Northridge is only a half hour from Hollywood, you can bet many CSUN students take their appearances to another level. Many dive into the ever-changing trends of fashion and come out wearing the “it thing,” complete with the latest jewelry and hairstyle. With so many malls and outdoor shopping at affordable prices, it’s not as expensive as you might think to maintain your looks. For the most part, the social scene at CSUN is in front of Sierra Tower. Many students who are in sororities and fraternities hang out at this spot. Most students in this crowd are looking to hook up, not many want a long-term relationship, although there is always the exception to the rule. One thing some guys at CSUN seem to be excited about is the girl-to-guy ratio. However, girls haven’t returned the enthusiasm, and many say that a lot of guys are too shy to make a move.

Not all CSUN students pay attention to trends. Many are happy to do their own thing. There are as many types of people at CSUN as there are clothing stores on Melrose including surfers, skaters, scenesters, valley girls, bad asses, musicians, preps, jocks, and the girl/boy next door. You will find many other groups of students chatting in social pods all over campus by the bookstore, at the Sierra Center, or by the Mercantile on the North side of campus. As you can see, there is something for everyone at CSUN.

Diverse, Friendly, and Outgoing

There are all kinds of people on campus, basically any ethnic group you can think of you will see on campus Since living on campus for a year I found myself hanging out manly with people who lived on campus and taking classes with quite a few who I recognized from housing. However you will also see international students many from my experience from Japan,India and China around.

CSU - Northridge (Diversity)

There is SO much diversity on the CSU - Northridge campus. It is rather eye-opening the religions, ethnicity, and cultural differences that you will see in just walking the campus once. There are so many cultural clubs and spirit walking about the campus and everyone seems to get along and enjoy the fact that there is an immense amount of diversity.

Northridge People

Everyone is extremely social and welcoming. I am a freshman and everywhere I go on campus I bump into people that are easy to communicate with and are extremely nice. Like any other school, there are attractive people as well as non attractive people. The overall environment is amazing and I would encourage anyone to attend CSUN!

What kinds of relationships have you had since coming to school?

How would you rate the social scene on campus?

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene is pretty much nonexistent unless you are part of a club, organization, fraternity, sorority, or work on campus. There are pockets of social groups, but the school as a whole isn't connected. Typically, friendships through people you meet in class don't last very long, and the best way to get to know people is to get involved.

Hookups or Relationships?

By far, the best way to experience a random hookup is to be in a sorority or fraternity. Going to a fraternity house party is also a great way to meet to hook up, if it doesn't get shut down by the cops first. You may randomly hook up if you live in the dorms, but it's not as likely. Many people at CSUN are in long-term relationships, but others enjoy the single life. You'll find a little bit of everything.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The best place to meet people is through the Greek system. But if that's not your thing, then you are bound to hook up with someone if you go to a party thrown by a sports team, because those are also really popular. Other than that, it's always easy to meet new people in classes, through the intramural system, or in an organization.

Dress Code

Some people are laid-back and show up in their PJs. But other students go all out and wear designer labels. Some people think of school as a fashion show, but there are other students who just don't care. You'll find that a lot of people wear their CSUN gear, too.
