Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

At CSUN, there’s always something going on for every age group. At the dorms, keep an open ear to the kickbacks happening that weekend, and if nothing is going on, then throw your own. RAs are usually pretty cool about get-togethers, as long as they don’t get out of hand. For that kind of crazy party, head over to a frat house. These parties can get really packed, and they are usually broken up by midnight or 1 a.m. because of the surrounding neighbors. As an alternative, many fraternities throw parties off campus at bars such as Los Toros or Harper’s. If you’re not into drinking, consider comedy clubs, hooka bars, pool halls, malls, the beach, or bowling alleys. You can always attend the annual CSUN events like the Big Show, which has featured a number of popular artists including Jimmy Eat World and Shaggy.

Sadly, Northridge doesn’t have a nightclub. For that kind of action, all students agree that you have to head to LA, where you can find a nightclub happening on any night of the week for whatever genre you’re into: ‘80s, house, hip-hop, techno, rare grooves, funk, soul, reggae—and the list goes on. It’s about a 30-minute drive depending on the traffic. (You’d be surprised how much traffic there can by at 11 at night.) Another issue about clubbing in LA is that most clubs are pretty keen at recognizing fake IDs, so be careful. On the other hand, the bars in Northridge tend to be very laid-back and chill. Many places have a college night, which is the best night to go because it’s the only night of the week that club is guaranteed to be packed. Stovepiper’s is Wednesday nights and Harper’s is Thursday nights.

Limited!

If one is not greek, It is actually quite hard to break through on the social scene. The location of the school also has a lot to do with why so many people are stuck up and feel entitled. Furthermore, many people commute from nearby cities, so not a lot of them stick around during the evening.

Bars and Clubs

The bars and clubs are where it's at on the weekends. There are no parties in and around campus because it is a commuter school. Going to bars and clubs are one way to meet new people and to hang out.
