Financial Aid

I love how fast I got my financial aid check. I got it a couple of days before school, so it was perfect timing for me to get my books and parking pass. Loved it.

Drugs

They have everything, find the right person and dont get caught. btw I dont do any narcotics.

ACADEMICS AT CSUN

THE EDUCATION OFFERED AT CSUN IS AMAZING. YOU WILL GET A PROFESSOR THAT YOU LOVE 9/10 TIMES. ALL THE PROGRAMS CSUN HAS TO OFFER IS TOP OF THE LINE. THE ONLY ONE THAT I KNOW THAT IS LACKING IS OUR ARTS PROGRAM. CURRENTLY I AM IN THE KINESIOLDY FIELD AND I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT THE TOP PROFESSORS AND MENTORS AND ALL OF THE STUDENTS FEEL THE SAME.

I had the most WONDERFUL experience at CSUN

I know a lot of people have rated this university poorly but your experience here really is what you make of it. At CSUN I found a thriving campus life with people passionate about what they were involved in with campus clubs and organizations. I found caring, dedicated, passionate professors who became my mentors and best friends and whose families I came to know and love. I found a wonderful network of motivated individuals from working class families who now as CSUN graduates have amazing jobs and help connect both alumni and current students with job and internship opportunities (myself included). At CSUN I worked with some of the best minds in my fields and learned more than I ever dreamed of learning. I was a double major in Political Science and Chicana/o Studies and I really felt like I belonged to a wonderful and encouraging campus community. Because of my CSUN education I have grown to the person, community organizer, and professional that I have always hoped to be and I graduated in 2009 with my 2 BA's. So, the experience really is what you make of it. In college, you just have to be your own advocate and seek out the resources and opportunities the campus has to offer. Once you contact them, they will do your best to help you or refer you to help. So, if you're interested in coming here- go for it! :) I spent the best years of my life here and made the most amazing friends.

Greek Life Is Alive...But Not Over Powering (NO GREEK ROW!)

Don't get me wrong, Cal. State Northridge is a good school with many great Professors who know what they're talking about. It's close proximity to Los Angeles and downtown has it dubbed "The Poor Man's UCLA", featuring one of the top 8 communication and arts colleges in the country. With that being said, the social life here is far sub par to that at many other universities in the area, and if you're looking for the "ideal" college experience, it should be noted that you should go elsewhere.

Greek Life flourishes here, but they only make up maybe 5-10% of the total enrolled population of 35,000 students.

Close to Hollywood Means Great Nightlife

The campus and surrounding area of Northridge, Chatsworth, Granda Hills, Porter Ranch, Reseda, and Encino pretty much suck in terms of nightlife. Commonly referred to as "the valley" by locals, the valley is busy but dirty. It's worth the 15 minute drive in to Los Angeles and Hollywood and thats where the nightlife really flourishes.

Diverse!

Cal. State Northridge is the most diverse campus in the entire CSU system.

I'm Seeing Improvement

I had a rough time getting acclimated at the beginning, however, getting involved helped me fix that. It's a commuter campus, so the campus life isn't as exciting as I would have liked, but our sports programs have been getting better and students are getting more and more involved. We've also had several recent renovations that are constantly improving the campus.

Greeks Are There...But Not Dominate

you see a great deal of greek reps through out campus during the first couple of weeks of a semester but just as quickly as they pop up they disappear.

Northridge Housing

The housing at Northridge isn't cheap but its a better deal than paying for an apartment in the area. We have several Living Learning Communities like the "Lighthouse"- a deaf/deaf ally housing option. We also have dorms just for freshman that help build a great sense of community. The housing process is fairly easy and the housing staff are very helpful.

Local Everything

The restaurants in the area are normal for any city .. pizza burgers, tacos and starbucks on every corner.& Everything is moderately cheap and in walking rang from the campus.

Greek Life

There are many fraternities and sororities to choose from. They is a frat/sor for almost anybody with almost any interest.

Tram Service

Due to the distance of the dorms from the actually campus, it is very convenient that there is a tram to transport you. The only downside is that catching the tram while it is service is a job all in its own. One time it was raining and at the time i didnt not have my car so i wanted to take the tram down to campus and come to find out the tram was suppose to be in service yet it was no where to be found.

Bi-Polar Weather

The weather in Northridge is really humid so when school starts back up right after summer it is extremely hot! When winter comes around it always a roller coaster, one day its warm the next day its raining. You never what you will end up with in winter.

About people going here.

This is not a party school. You go to this college to develop friendships here. Long lasting friendships mostly. This is not a place to meet people.

Parties

While clubs may seem fun, small parties are better and cheaper and you can truly have some quality fun time with your friends.

Libraries

The library contains the necessary materials for the students' study needs.

It Is Very Diverse. There Is No Dominant Racial Ethnicity. I Love How Diverse It Is!

There are people from all walks of life There is so many different ethnicity's and people from all walks of life. It makes L.A , L.A.

If You Live in the Neighborhood Walk to Class Because Parking Is Difficult to Find.

Parking and traffic is always a nightmare from about 7:45am-8:30am and again from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Try to get there a bit earlier to avoid the traffic and find a good parking spot.

The Library Is Great

The Library at CSUN are nice. It has plenty of updated reference materials and knowledgeable employees to assist you.

It is typical California weather...

It is typical California weather in Northridge. Expect to sweat a lot as you're trekking across campus for an afternoon class.

My overall experience is okay. I...

My overall experience is okay. I don’t wish I were somewhere else because I’m too far into my program. There are clubs and things to get involved in, but most people don’t because they work or commute. The teaching program was not exactly what I pictured, it became a very demanding and stressful major that also made it hard to switch once I started. Although it’s considered one of the best in teacher training, it leaves very little opportunity to explore fun classes that they offer here like sailboating or debate.
