College Prowler Take
Since most freshmen bring their cars when they live in the dorms, not many people resort to public transportation. The majority of these students, however, do use the CSUN shuttle that takes students from the dorms to the heart of campus. Since it can be a 20-minute walk to campus, depending on which building you live in, many students find the shuttle an awesome alternative to walking in the blazing heat. However, there is no other form of transportation for students once you are on campus, which is a bit of a downer considering that buildings can be very spread out.
If you want to head off campus, then public transportation is a poor alternative because everything is too far to walk, but too close to drive to—especially if you have to wait for a bus you are hoping shows up on time. The best way to get around to the grocery stores, malls, or drug stores is to befriend your roommate and ask them if you can go with them next time they run errands. Don’t forget to pay gas money, because even if your roommates refuse the money, they’ll appreciate the offer and be more likely to take you with them next time they go somewhere. If you don’t live in the dorms and believe that public transportation will be your only method of getting to school, then plan that it will probably take you three times longer to get to school. Don’t be discouraged, despite this warning, many people find that buses serve them well.

Transportation is great in the Los Angeles area. There is a bus or train that will take you anywhere. The routes go on all of the main streets and even those not-so-traveled areas. I lived off the public transportation for over a year, and I had no problem getting anywhere. |
