Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Only students who are incredibly easy to please like the dorms. Sac State dorms are, like one of the surveyed students said, “some of the worst dorms in the Cal State system.” They’re small, old, and the facilities are run-down. Just recently, an article in the campus newspaper highlighted the bending, cracking walls in Sutter Hall. And sharing a bathroom with your whole floor is simply not fun for most people, especially when some of them do more than just pee. It’s not much better when it comes to other hygiene issues either. If one person gets sick, that’s it for the whole dorm because everyone’s so close to each other. For a school with so many undergrads, it’s surprising that there are only five three-story dorms to accommodate them. But then again, Sac State was designed to be a commuter school, so not as much attention is paid to dorm quality. Administrators have been taking about revamping the dorms, but right now, it’s just talk. Who knows how long it will take it to become action? The major saving grace for students is the social atmosphere. Meeting people and making new friends is worth the experience, or almost worth it, at least. Small rooms that are close together are breeding grounds for noise pollution, though. If you like quiet time to study and you live on campus, be prepared to make frequent use of the library.

New Dorms Available

The new dorms are super nice. There is a small store that students can go to, a computer lab, a TV room and billiards. I really liked the atmosphere and felt that the staff was always very helpful and excited to be apaprt of the dorm life.

Wish I Knew

I wish I knew what it was like to have the 'typical' college experience, but I can't say that I do. I have to commute to campus, and I live at home with my parents. Unable to qualify for financial aid, I have to work a 30 hour work week to scrape by paying my bills, hoping I have enough gas to get me through the school week. Hoping that someday, making the decision to go to college will pay off, and the huge debt I have looming ahead of me won't drag me down.
