Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Taking all the different responses into account, Sac State is an okay-looking campus. There are some people who dress sharp, but few of them look like supermodels or personal trainers. Then again, not everyone is into that look. Students have different tastes, and many of them frowned or blinked when asked about how attractive they felt the student body was. Some wondered what the point of that question was, and others thought it was a tad superficial. Many went right on ahead and answered, though. Overall, the campus is filled with average people, but occasionally, someone makes you look twice. Most Sac State students are women, which should excite male students. Also, male students usually think more highly of their female counterparts’ looks than vice versa, so if you’re a guy who likes girls, you’ll at least have a lot to look at. Students of both genders comment a lot on how others dress, and the consensus is that the student body plays it safe with their wardrobes. There’s definitely a shortage of people making daring fashion statements.

City Life

Everyone has their own style in the city as well as on campus. Most people commute to campus. Living in the dorms or being involved with clubs and sororities/fraternities is the best way to meet people, other than in your classes.

Facts

Social Scene

Although a lot of students attend CSUS, most of them socialize and date within their own social groups, so meeting new people isn't as easy as it would appear. Dorm dwellers usually look for people to hang out with because most of them are strangers to the Sacramento area. Keep in mind, though, that people who live on campus are vastly outnumbered by those who don't, because CSUS is mostly a commuter school. People drive here from all over Sacramento and the surrounding counties. A good strategy to make friends is to join a frat, sorority, or some club centered around your interests or major. Overall, Sac State's a lot quieter than other campuses because many students are relatively low-key. A student who likes to party might have a difficult time looking for the experience he or she wants, unless they join one of the wilder fraternities or clubs. Of course, don't let them be your one-stop shop for good times and true friends. A sad fact about the school is that many people don't try too hard to hang out with others outside of their clique. Just find somewhere you're comfortable, talk to people, and be yourself.

Hookups or Relationships?

Many people at Sac State are in relationships, but there are enough single people out there to keep someone who's on the prowl happy. Newer students and transfer students who are strangers to the city are more likely to be looking for love or good times. The campus is also right in the middle of an urban area with a lot of people who are unattached and ready for some fun. Sacramento has a large percentage of single people, so spread yourself thin and keep your eyes open.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Personality-wise, there’s a good mixture of students running around. A more outgoing person should have no problem meeting people, because there are a lot of social events and house parties nearby. Introverted students may have a tougher time meeting significant others, but because there are a lot of other introverted people, times might not be too tough.

Dress Code

Many students like to look nice, especially during the warmer months. However, their idea of looking nice is wearing the general, department-store fashions. There are a lot of tank tops, name-brand clothing, and magazine styles. CSUS isn't a preppy school, but a lot of people like to advertise the fact they know how to shop and read magazines. You'll see A&F, velour suits, American Eagle, Dickies, Independent, and most other mainstream clothing lines, but honestly, anything goes. There are slackers and there are those who like to dress to impress, but not too many people think outside of the box when it comes to fashion. CSUS is very conservative, fashion-wise. You won't find too many people who look like they came from another planet. If you want someone who dresses a lot differently, you'll have to look pretty hard, because they don't advertise. Even people who look like they just got out of bed play it safe.
