Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sac State is right in the middle of a lot of shopping and dining venues, so if you like to spend money in a consumer paradise, you’re in luck. If, however, you like to enjoy great landmarks and unique local attractions, you’re going to have to work harder to find them. Aside from relics from the Gold Rush and some state capital buildings, Sacramento doesn’t really have anything out of the ordinary, so it’s not exactly a big tourist city. Waterworld USA, the amusement park, is practically five minutes from campus, so feel free to visit when it’s hot. There are also museums, concert halls, and sports arenas, but they’re not as impressive as the ones in larger, famous cities. Arco Arena, for example, could use a better sound system. It’s not unusual for people to head out of town for excitement. One popular place is San Francisco, which is about two hours away. In fact, if you’re in college here and you’ve never been there, lots of people will look at you funny. It’s just a given that most Sacramentans have gone there at least a few times. Also, outdoorsy people might like Sacramento better because of the moderate weather. It’s never too cold, so the environment favors rafting, hiking, biking, and running, among other things. Lake Tahoe is about two hours away, so head there for skiing and snowboarding. Avoid the city if you like snow or hate heat.

There's Lots to Do

Being that it's centrally located in Sacramento, it's easy to get to from any freeway. The only issue I have is that I have to drive through downtown Sacramento which is often backed up with traffic. Sacramento is home to the Oakland A's triple A team, the River Cats...so we can enjoy a ball game if we like. We are also home to the Sacramento Kings basketball team. And if you're into night life, we have plenty of that too and not far from campus!

Great Experiences

I moved to Sacramento because it is very different from my original home town. It is everything I expected, from the friendly atmosphere to the many shopping centers. The school offers a lot of outdoor activities, especially for being a school in the center of a city.

Fun City

Sacramento State has a variety of fun options to participate in, i love that the shuttle takes you all over campus and that the University has a safe off-campus living space with easy access to restaurants etc.
