Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sacramento’s climate is fairly moderate, except for the hot, dry summers. Winters are cold, rainy, and without snow. In the greater Sacramento area, you can count on one hand the number of times it’s snowed in the past 20 years. Because seasons are pretty mild, people are lulled into a sense of security and disoriented when the weather becomes extreme. When rain comes down, it’s generally light and uneventful, but every few years or so, it comes with a vengeance. Sacramento’s had quite a few floods, so be prepared. If you’re allergic to pollen, keep a low profile in the spring, because plant-life abounds. On the other hand, if you like parks and the outdoors, you’ll love Sacramento for most of the year. Just avoid the hottest months, and January, when it rains the most. Blazing heat characterizes the Sacramento summer, so if you can’t take the heat, you might want to go to school elsewhere. “But wait a minute,” you might be thinking, “The average summer temperature is 74°F. That’s not bad at all.” You’re right, it’s not, but keep in mind, that’s the average summer temperature, which means there are times when the heat rises to above average. And when it does, bring your fan. This past summer, Sacramento had plenty of triple-digit days. This is California after all, and one thing it’s famous for is the heat. Sacramento is no exception.

Unpredictable Sacramento Weather

Because Sacramento is between the Bay Area and Reno/Nevada, we seemm to acquire sometimes unpredictable weather. Lately, we have been having colder weather but anytime closer to summer months it is blazing hot. The weather here reminds me of Texas weather at times. Hot days, cooler nights. Although, the humidity isn't as high. Usually there is a breeze and most days are nice.
