Study Abroad is very common. Calvin offers a unique "3rd semester" in January called 'Interim' where students have the opportunity to either study abroad for 3-4 weeks or to stay on campus and take one fun class for the month like skiing or bowling for example. You can also study abroad for an entire semester.
Pre-med is not anything special here. I would say its average.
I would definitely disagree. Pre-med at Calvin is considered to be as rigorous as the University of Michigan and students that do well at Calvin are very prepared for medical school.
PreMed at Calvin is good in the sense that if you work hard, you will be rewarded for it. Med Schools are looking for students who graduate at the top of their class and who received strong GPAs etc, Calvin Professors are very accessible and will help you to succeed, which is what you need for Med School Admissions. It's not about where you go, it's about what you do while you're there.
