Canisius is a NCAA Division I school with a modest athletic record. Fans and effort are unwavering, but winning results are not as consistent. Still, students regularly attend games to support their peers, and C-Block (the school's cheering squad) makes sure its members make a good showing. Basketball games are by far the most popular. It seems like almost everyone at Canisius is involved in some sort of club sport or intramural sport. Club sports teams at Canisius are almost like a second varsity team—they even get write-ups in "The Griffin" student newspaper. Intramural sports are obviously less recognized, but they are certainly not less fun. Though varsity schedules must be worked around, dodgeball, flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and more are played enthusiastically each semester.

Athletic facilities are good, for the most part, but the gym in the Koessler Athletic Center (at least the one for nonvarsity athletes) is in need of renovation. It is way too small for a 4,000-body university, and the equipment is pretty beat.

Zumba Zumba Every Monday, there is Zumba at the athletic center. Take advantage of it, as it's a great way to avoid the Freshman 15. As the semester progresses, yoga and Pilates night is Tuesday, and you can always join intramural sports if you are not playing a Division I sport.
