School Spirit
C-Block is the school's largest club and official cheering squad. For such a small school, there is a lot of Golden Griffin pride, particularly during games against the main rival, Niagara University (the Purple Eagles). C-Block provides T-shirts and transportation to games for a minor fee.
Getting Tickets
It's usually pretty easy to get tickets to events, especially if you're an official member of C-Block. If you're not, just drop by their club room or wherever they have indicated tickets will be available. And some home sporting events don't even require tickets-just show up and wear blue and gold.
Best Place to Take a Walk
Delaware Park is a scenic place to stroll and is close to campus. Even closer is Forest Lawn Cemetery, which is also nice (and a national historical landmark).
Did You Know?
  • A "griffin" is a creature with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. Originating in ancient Middle Eastern mythology, it is believed to have been representative of valor and vigilance, a steadfast guardian.
  • This may come as a real downer to some, but Canisius does not have a football team. Originally, it did, but in the early 2000s, the NCAA made changes to division regulations, mandating that Canisius only play D-1 schools in accordance with the division the rest of its athletics were ranked in. These new opponents were much farther away and less familiar, and so the administration eventually decided to drop it due to financial and popularity issues.
